We describe an efficient, clean and metal-free procedure for the synthesis of amides via oxidative amidation of aldehydes with anilines using graphene oxide (GO) as a recyclable catalyst and KBrO3 as a mild oxidant in aqueous medium under microwave irradiation. GO nanosheets were prepared and characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, and FT-IR, analyses. GO showed high compatibility with KBrO3 in water and offered high TOF value (1.30 x 10(-3) mol g(-1) min(-1)). GO oxygen functionalities catalyze the oxidative amidation effectively in mild condition with high recyclability. A plausible mechanism was proposed by the isolating the intermediate.

Hierarchically porous P substituted HZSM-5 (H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M ) was successfully synthesized by isomorphous substitution method with introduced P atoms into ZSM-5 zeolite frameworks followed by alkali treatment. H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M was characterized by XRD, ICP-OES, SEM, FT-IR, N-2 adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, XPS, Py-IR, and TG-DTA, respectively. The surface area, pore volume, particle size and P/Al (molar ratio) are 328 m(2).g(-1), 0.23 cm(3).g(-1), 563 nm and 0.027, respectively. The catalytic performance of H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M in coupling reaction of methanol with 1-butene was investigated in the fixed-bed reactor. On the condition of reaction temperature at 500 degrees C under atmosphere pressure, the main product is propylene with the selectivity and yield of 33.7% and 31.0%, respectively. Hydrogen transfer index was calculated to 0.24. Moreover, its diffusion limitation was investigated with the self-etherification of benzyl alcohol reaction. The value of Thiele modulus (eta) and effectiveness factor (phi) are 0.08 and 16.9, respectively.

Introduction: Previous studies have reported that maternal asthma increases the risk of preterm birth. We hypothesized that inflammatory reactions caused by allergic diseases might affect the uterine environment and, subsequently, perinatal outcomes. The objective of this study was to examine the associations between allergic features among mothers and preterm pregnancy outcomes in a nationwide birth cohort. Methods: We analyzed data from pregnant women obtained from the Japanese Environment and Children’s Study (JECS), a nationwide general birth cohort study. We used binomial and multinomial logistic regression models to examine the associations between maternal allergic features and preterm birth, threatened preterm labor (TPL), and preterm premature rupture of the membrane (PPROM). Results: A total of 97,683 pregnant women were included. Prevalence of preterm birth, TPL, and PPROM was 4.7, 19.6, and 1.2%, respectively. Maternal history of allergic diseases (asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy, drug allergy, and contact dermatitis) increased the risk of TPL(adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.11 [95% CI: 1.06-1.17], aOR = 1.12 [1.08-1.16], aOR = 1.10 [1.04-1.16], aOR = 1.17 [1.09-1.26], aOR = 1.35 [1.23-1.48], and aOR = 1.34 [1.20-1.49], respectively). Although some maternal allergic features showed a negative association with preterm birth, the variables affecting preterm birth differed according to the gestational age of the fetus (22-33 weeks vs. 34-36 weeks). There were no significant associations between maternal allergic features and PPROM. Conclusion: Maternal allergic disease, except atopic dermatitis, may increase the risk of TPL. Comorbidity of maternal allergic disorders and perinatal adverse outcomes require further investigation.

The catalytic activity of the solid acid catalyst has been successfully examined in a one-pot, three-component condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes, dimedone and kojic acid under solvent-free condition to furnish dihydropyrano [3,2-b] chromen dione derivatives. The proposed approach has some advantages as excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, use of agricultural waste and eco-friendly nature.

In catalytic double bond migration reaction, E-configuration olefins were normally generated as the dominant product because E-configuration was thermodynamically favored. However, Z-configuration products are sometimes desired in pharmaceutical chemistry owing to the structure-activity relationship. In this paper, we have demonstrated a new strategy that Lewis acid promoted an widely employed and convenient ruthenium(II) complex for the catalytic isomerization of O-allylethers, leading to thermodynamic-unfavored Z-product under mild conditions. The model substrate of allyl phenyl ether can be simply scaled up to 20 mmol to produce Z-product with TON of 2453 and TOF of 13,430 h(-1) at 40-60 degrees C. The system of Ru(II)/Lewis Acid catalysts was suitable for various substituted O-allylethers and other types of substrates. Through mechanism study including kinetic study, ligand inhibition effect and molecular spectroscopy, the dissociation of PPh3 ligand by the addition of Lewis acid, and the formation a five-membered Ru complex from anchimeric assistance were both recognized as essential steps to improve the reactivity and to control the stereoselectivity of catalytic double bond migration reaction through metal hydride addition-elimination mechanism. This new strategy may provide a new opportunity to produce thermodynamic-unfavored product in heterocyclic compounds for pharmaceutical chemistry.

One effective means to achieve inhibitor specificity for RAF kinases, an important family of cancer drug targets, has been to target the monomeric inactive state conformation of the kinase domain, which, unlike most other kinases, can accommodate sulfonamide-containing drugs such as vemurafenib and dabrafenib because of the presence of a unique pocket specific to inactive RAF kinases. We previously reported an alternate strategy whereby rigidification of a nonselective pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-based inhibitor through ring closure afforded moderate but appreciable increases in selectivity for RAF kinases. Here, we show that a further application of the rigidification strategy to a different pyrazolopyrimidine-based scaffold dramatically improved selectivity for RAF kinases. Crystal structure analysis confirmed our inhibitor design hypothesis revealing that 21 engages an active-like state conformation of BRAF normally associated with poorly discriminating inhibitors. When screened against a panel of distinct cancer cell lines, the optimized inhibitor 21 primarily inhibited the proliferation of the expected BRAF(V600E)-harboring cell lines consistent with its kinome selectivity profile. These results suggest that rigidification could be a general and powerful strategy for enhancing inhibitor selectivity against protein kinases, which may open up therapeutic opportunities not afforded by other approaches.

Herein, we report the preparation of lyotropic liquid crystalline (LLC) phases of Poly-beta-benzyl-L-aspartate (PBLA), a polymer that has not been known to form LLC phases before. Compared to other L-configured polypeptides usually forming right-handed helices, PBLA forms left-handed helices. The LLC phase behavior was observed for PBLA in a specific range of molecular weights, exclusively. Living polymerization allowed for this excellent control over the molecular weight. Furthermore, the LLC phase was used as a host matrix for two chiral analytes-isopinocampheol and beta-pinene-used as probes. The interaction between these probes and the polypeptide was measured indirectly using NMR spectroscopy by investigation of the resulting orientation of probes in general and the enantiodifferentiation of the chiral analytes in particular. By comparison of the orientation induced on the probes by PBLA and the well-known poly-beta-benzyl-L-glutamate, the effect of side-chain flexibility and conformation of the polypeptides on the alignment process are discussed.

Sashimi is a perishable aquatic product. Low temperature offers a promising avenue to preserve sashimi, but traditional frozen methods can hardly avoid the undesirable effects caused by fluids’ freezing. The aim of this work is to establish a superchilling storage-ice glazing (SS-IG) approach using essential oils (EOs) from Zanthoxylum acanthopodium (ZA) and Zanthoxylum simulans (ZS) to preserve sashimi. Different compound of EOs were identified using GC-MS. Twelve main active compositions accounted for 52.85% and 63.19% of the total oils. Fresh salmon sashimi fillets were coated by 0.3% of EOs and stored at (- 1 +/- 0.2) degrees C for 25 days. EOs-based ice-glazing layers were formed on the surface of sashimi, while the fluids in sashimi samples still kept at liquid state. As the results, the microstructure and sensory quality of sashimi were maximally maintained. The growth of microbial populations and production of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) in sashimi were inhibited. The degree of lipid oxidation in sashimi was limited at a low range. The results revealed this SS-IG approach can effectively retain the overall quality of sashimi during storage and will be a promising means for the development of sushi industry.
