In this work, poly(vinylpyrrolidonium) perchlorate {[PVPH]ClO4}, a newly reported modified polymeric catalyst, is used as an efficient and reusable solid acid catalyst for the promotion of the synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-trione derivatives. All reactions were performed under mild conditions and the products were formed over short reaction times in excellent yields. It is important to note that this solid acid catalyst can be reused several times without any appreciable loss in its activity.

Zwitterionic-type ionic liquid (CDIPS) was prepared by the reaction of 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) with 1,3-propane sultone (PS). H-1 NMR, XRD, FT-IR and CHNS confirm that 1,3-propane sultone was attached to two N Latoms. Inorganic-organic hybrids based on SO3H-functionalized cations and Keggin-type heteropoly acids as anions (H3PW12O40, H3PMo12O40, and H4SiW12O40; HPAs) were prepared and characterized. The electronic properties of the center-metal ions in hybrid salts and their electrochemical behavior were studied through UV and cyclic voltammetry (CV) respectively. Catalytic activities of the organic-inorganic HPA salts were studied in the synthesis of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]-xanthene-11-one derivatives. Relationship between catalytic activity and both of acidic strength and the number of acid sites of the catalysts was discussed and proved by potentiometric titration. The catalyst was readily recovered and reused for four runs. Moreover, the best catalyst was characterized more by FT-IR, XRD, SEM/EDX, ICP-OES, BJH and CHNS.

Naturally occurring benzoic acid (BA) derived anions have been used to prepare halogen free hydrophilic ionic liquids (ILs 1-4). The supramolecular polymeric aggregation behaviour of these ILs has been studied through high-resolution electron spray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS). Furthermore, these ILs were applied as catalyst/phase transfer catalyst in the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran and its derivatives. These reactions were conducted in aqueous medium under ultrasound assistance. The results suggested that 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium 2-hydroxybenzoate (IL-1) was a highly efficient catalyst yielding 86.9% product in 30 min. The effect of introducing a lateral methyl substituent and the two different alkoxy terminal groups on the mesophase behavior of three-benzene-ring molecular core of azo-ester compounds bearing 2-methylbutoxy unit on the opposite terminal side (C1-C6) were explored. Their structures were confirmed by several spectroscopic techniques (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy). The mesomorphic properties of these compounds were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, and small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. Except for the un-substituted terminals (C1 and C4), all other derivatives are liquid crystalline, exhibiting enantiotropic nematic liquid crystal phase. The alteration of the alkoxy chain length from methoxy to butoxy at the phenyl ester terminal group (ring A) for each set of laterally-neat and laterally methyl-substituted mesogens decreases the nematic temperature range. A decrease in the mesophase temperature range is also observed when a lateral methyl substituent is incorporated into phenylazo ring of the mesogenic core (ring C). Optical study demonstrated that their absorption spectra are identical in shape due to the structural similarities of the mesogenic core. The corresponding fluorescence spectra exhibited blue-emission with the laterally methyl substituted compounds having a relatively higher fluorescence intensity compared to that of its laterally un-substituted analogues. Furthermore, the laterally methyl-substituted derivatives were subjected to the planar alignment and their dielectric and electro-optic properties were investigated. The nematic phase of the aligned samples shows antiferroelectric switching behavior with spontaneous polarization, P-s similar to 5 mu C/cm(2). (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In the present work, we report the design and fabrication of a copper-containing ionic liquid supported magnetic nanocatalyst via a convenient and straightforward synthetic approach for the formation of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones using o-aminobenzamide and benzaldehydes as the reaction partners. The successful formation and properties of the as-prepared catalyst have been thoroughly investigated using diverse physico-chemical techniques including FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, ICP, VSM, BET and TGA. Using this nanocatalytic system, a variety of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones are synthesized in excellent yields with operational ease and short reaction times in an environmentally preferable solvent under open air and without using any external oxidizing agent. Besides, the catalyst possessed facile magnetic recoverability and remarkable reusability for six consecutive runs without any appreciable decrease in the catalytic efficiency.

An efficient, convenient and novel method for the selective mono N-arylation of primary O-alkyl thiocarbamates and primary O-alkyl carbamates with aryl halides and arylboronic acids in the presence of a recyclable magnetic Cu(II) nanocatalyst is described. A variety of mono N-arylated O-alkyl thiocarbamates and O-alkyl carbamates were prepared in good to excellent yields with a broad range of aryl coupling partners. The magnetic nanocatalyst can be easily recovered with an external magnetic field and reused at least five times without noticeable leaching or loss of its catalytic activity. This costeffective and eco-friendly methodology has some other advantages, such as easy preparation of the catalyst, simple workup procedure, and easy purification, which makes this protocol interesting for the users in various fields of pharmacology and biotechnology systems.

A transition-metal-free method for the alkylation of gem-diborylalkanes with alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones has been developed. It is demonstrated that the alpha-boryl radicals can be generated efficiently from gem-diborylalkanes with the aid of catechol and oxidants. A simple and efficient synthetic protocol for the synthesis of methyl 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-5,7-dioxo-1-phenyl-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydropyrazolo [4′,3]:5,6] pyrano[2,3-d] pyrimidine-3-carboxylate derivatives via a one pot four-component reaction catalyzed by L-Proline has been successfully developed.
