Fe-C micro-electrolysis was employed to the pretreatment of evaporated condensate generated during metal cutting process. The effect of the reaction conditions on the contaminant removal and degradation mechanism were studied. Through single-factor experiments, the effects of solid-liquid ratio, gas-liquid ratio and reaction time on the treatment of wastewater were preliminarily determined. The optimal reaction condition obtained was: 500 g/L solid-liquid ratio, 30:1 gas-liquid ratio with 4 h reaction time. Under the optimal condition, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of micro-electrolysis could reach around 25%, and the biodegradability of wastewater increased from 0.12 to 0.32. According to the analysis results of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) qualitative analysis, it was observed that the most organic contaminants in the influent were degraded or converted into simple structures under Fe-C micro-electrolysis, indicates that Fe-C micro-electrolysis pretreatment could improve the biodegradability of the evaporated condensate generated during metal cutting process and achieve certain degree removal of COD.

Hydrogen being a dynamically impending energy transporter is widely used in hydrogenation reactions for the synthesis of various value added chemicals. It can be obtained from dehydrogenation reactions and the acquired hydrogen molecule can directly be utilized in hydrogenation reactions. This correspondingly avoids external pumping of hydrogen making it an economical process. We have for the first time tried to carryout 1,4-butanediol dehydrogenation and benzaldehyde hydrogenation simultaneously over ceriaalumina supported copper (Cu/CeO2-Al2O3) catalyst. In this concern, 10 wt% of Cu supported on CeO2-Al2O3 (3:1 ratio) was synthesized using wet impregnation method. The synthesized catalyst was then characterized by various analytical methods such as BET, powder XRD, FE-SEM, H-2-TPR, NH3 and CO2-TPD, FT-IR and TGA. The catalytic activity towards simultaneous 1,4-butanediol dehydrogenation and benzaldehyde hydrogenation along with their individual reactions was tested for temperature range of 240 degrees C-300 degrees C. The physicochemical properties enhanced the catalytic activity as clearly interpreted from the results obtained from the respective characterization data. The best results were obtained with 10 wt% of Cu supported on CeO2-Al2O3 (3:1 ratio) catalyst with benzaldehyde conversion of 34% and 84% selectivity of benzyl alcohol. The conversion of 1,4-butanediol was seen to be 90% with around 95% selectivity of gamma-butyrolactone. The catalyst also featured physicochemical properties namely increased surface area, higher dispersion and its highly basic nature, for the simultaneous reaction towards a positive direction. In terms of permanence, the Cu/CeO2-Al2O3 (10CCA) catalyst was quite steady and showed stable activity up to 24 h in time on stream profile. (C) 2020 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. A novel photoactive porous material of GR/FeMIL-101 based on FeMIL-101 metal organic frameworks (MOFs) was successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method. The structural and photoelectric properties of the GR/FeMIL-101 was analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, TGA, XPS, UV-vis DRS, FT-IR, PL and EIS methods. The photocatalytic performance for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol with GR/FeMIL-101 as catalysts was evaluated under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the GR/FeMIL-101 nanohybrid had better photocatalytic performance than both of FeMIL-101 and the pristine MIL-101. It was further found that the incorporation of Fe and MIL-101 caused valence fluctuations of Fe3+/Fe2+ which improved the absorption of visible-light and increased the separation efficiency of photogenerated charges. In addition, the combination of FeMIL-101 and GR could further promote the transfer rate of the photoelectrons. The mechanism of the reaction revealed that center dot O-2(-) was the dominating active specie in this reaction through active species trapping experiments. [GRAPHICS] .

In this report, tetrabutylammonium tribromide (TBATB) was introduced as an efficient visible light active catalyst to carry out the aerobic oxidation of toluene, its derivatives, and some of methyl arenes to benzaldehydes, benzoic acids and ketones in good to high yields. All the oxidation reactions were performed under mild conditions using oxygen as a green oxidant, a catalytic amount of TBATB under blue (460 nm), royal blue (430 nm), and violet LED (400 nm) irradiation. It was found that the reactions selectivity was significantly affected by changing the solvent (from CH3CN to EtOAc) and LED wavelength (from blue to violet). In the following, our mechanistic studies revealed that the visible light oxidation of toluenes and methyl arenes over TBATB could be following a benzyl peroxy radical intermediate.

Golgi endo-alpha-mannosidase (G-EM) catalyzes an alternative deglucosylation process for N-glycans and plays important roles in the post-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) quality control pathway. To understand the post-ER quality control mechanism, we synthesized a tetrasaccharide probe for the detection of the hydrolytic activity of G-EM based on a fluorescence quenching assay. The probe was labeled with an N-methylanthraniloyl group as a reporter dye at the non-reducing end and a 2,4-dinitrophenyl group as a quencher at the reducing end. This probe is hydrolyzed to disaccharide derivatives by G-EM, resulting in increased fluorescence intensity. Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) extract has been commonly used as a flavoring ingredient due to its unique aroma. In this study, solid phase micro extraction method was used to extract the volatile compounds in fresh jujube, with the aid of GC-MS for further chemical separation and identification. As a result, 33 volatile compounds, including aldehydes, alcohols, acids, ketones and esters, were identified. Among them, hexanal (276.5-1314 mu g/100g FW), (E)-2-hexanal, (145.1-1876 mu g/100g FW), nonanal (188.2-1047 mu g/100g FW), and n-decanoic acid (58.42-1268 mu g/100g FW) were found to be the major volatile compounds in fresh jujube fruit. Based on the type and amounts of the volatile compounds, 15 Chinese jujube cultivars were divided into 5 clusters through hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). Fiver clusters include cluster 1 (LB, HP, LZ, NP, JS, PZ, and YL), cluster 2 (BJ, DB), cluster 3 (PB, BZ, JD and XZ), cluster 4 (JB) and cluster 5 (YZ). According to the PCA, the clusters 1, 2 and 3 could not be discriminated from each other, but clusters 4 and 5 could be separated very well from each other.

Enantioselective alpha-aminomethylation of carbonyl compounds constitutes a powerful protocol for introducing aminomethyl groups to simple organic molecules. However, current strategies rely on nucleophile-based enantioselective activation with inherently activated substrates only, and enantioselective protocol based on the activation of in situ-generated unstable formaldimines remains elusive, probably owing to their unstable nature and the lack of steric environment for efficient stereocontrols. Here, based on a rhodium/chiral phosphoric acid cooperative catalysis, we achieved an enantioselective three-component reaction of alpha-diazo ketones with alcohols and 1,3,5-triazines. A dual hydrogen bonding between the chiral phosphoric acid catalyst and two distinct active intermediates was proposed to be crucial for the efficient electrophile-based enantiocontrol. A series of chiral beta-amino-alpha-hydroxy ketones including those derived from simple aliphatic alcohols, allylic alcohol, propargyl alcohol, complicated natural alcohols and water could all be prepared in high efficiency and enantioselectivity.

Background: Shampoo is a hair care product designed to clean the skin and hair of the scalp. Among the ingredients that go into the making of a shampoo are detergents, conditioners, thickeners, sequestering agents, pH adjusters, preservatives, and active ingredients such as anti-dandruff agents. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the composition of 140 shampoos available in pharmacies, in stores of a mass-market chain, or from mail-order retailers. Forty-one shampoos were advertised as gentle, 12 as specially formulated for infants, 35 as anti-dandruff, and 52 without any particular claim. Materials and Methods: We analysed the cleansing base, preservatives, and anti-dandruff agents when relevant and identified the allergens regardless of whether or not they are listed under Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 as one of the 26 regulated substances. Results: We discovered that unlike shampoos sold in stores of a mass-market chain and those available from mail-order retailers, those sold in pharmacies expose users to some of the 26 substances listed under Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. We also determined that baby shampoos sold in pharmacies are allergen-free. Regarding anti-dandruff formulations, the largest variety of active ingredients was found in shampoos sold in pharmacies. Overall, the most common active ingredients were olamines, zinc pyrithione, azoles, selenium disulphide, and plant extracts. Conclusion: Shampoos sold in pharmacies appear to contain fewer allergens listed under Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 compared to those sold elsewhere.
