The aim of this study was to develop a nondairy fermented product based on mango slurry. Lactobacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae DV10 were used as starter cultures in single and co-cultivations. The microbial populations and metabolites produced during mango slurry fermentation were investigated. At the end of all fermentations, the bacterial populations were higher than 6.0 log CFU/mL. Lactic acid was the main organic acid produced, achieving up to 6.12 g/L after 24 h in co-culture with L. plantarum and S. cerevisiae DV10. Volatile compounds were determined after 24 h of fermentation, the co-cultures of L. plantarum and S. cerevisiae DV10 could decrease terpenes and produce alcohols and esters. The co-cultivations obtained the most total phenolics as well as showed the strongest 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation inhibition. Hence, a high-bioactivity probiotic product was successfully obtained via mango slurry fermentation inoculated with a co-culture of L. plantarum and S. cerevisiae DV10.

In this study, different types of Bi2WO6 catalysts were synthesized by a hydrothermal method using Bi(NO3)(3)center dot 5H(2)O and Na2WO4 center dot 2H(2)O as precursors, and various characterization methods, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area measurements, and photoluminescence (PL) analysis, were used to characterize the morphologies, structures, and valence states of the catalysts. Then, the catalysts were used to catalyze the alpha alkylation reaction of benzyl alcohol and acetophenone to obtain 1,3-diphenyl-1-propenone under visible light irradiation, and the photocatalytic reaction conditions were optimized. To expand the applicable range of alpha alkylation, the influence of different alcohols and different ketone derivatives on the photocatalytic reaction was determined. In addition, the effects of the wavelength and intensity of the light used were also important, and the recyclability of the catalyst and active species (such as superoxide radicals (center dot O-2(-)), holes (h(+)) and electrons (e(-))) produced during the reaction were tested.

Reported is the enantioselective total syntheses of mavacuran alkaloids, (+)- taberdivarine H, (+)- 16- hydroxymethyl- pleiocarpamine, and (+)- 16- epi- pleiocarpamine, and their postulated biosynthetic precursor 16- formyl- pleiocarpamine. This family of monoterpene indole alkaloids is a target of choice since some of its members are subunits of intricate bisindole alkaloids such as bipleiophylline. Noscapine displays weak anticancer efficacy and numerous research efforts have attempted to generate more potent noscapine analogues. Composite materials consisting of nanoscale gold particles and protective polymer shells were designed and tested as catalysts in various chemical reactions. Initially, the systematic incorporation of multiple gold nanoparticles into a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) particle was achieved by an in situ method under light irradiation. The degree of gold nanoparticle loading, along with the structural and morphological properties, was examined as a function of the amount of initial gold ions and reducing agent. As these gold nanoparticles were physically-embedded within the polymer particle in the absence of strong interfacial interactions between the gold nanoparticles and polymer matrix, the readily-accessible surface of the gold nanoparticles with a highly increased stability allowed for their use as recyclable catalysts in oxidation, reduction, and coupling reactions. Overall, the ability to integrate catalytically-active metal nanoparticles within polymer particles in situ allows for designing novel composite materials for multi-purpose catalytic systems.

Herein, we describe the iron(III)-catalyzed oxidative coupling of alcohol/methyl arene with 2-amino phenyl ketone to synthesize 4-quinolone. Alcohols and methyl arenes are oxidized to the aldehyde in the presence of an iron catalyst and di-tert-butyl peroxide, followed by a tandem process, condensation with amine/Mannich-type cyclization/oxidation, to complete the 4-quinolone ring. This method tolerates various kinds of functional groups and provides a direct approach to the synthesis of 4-quinolones from less functionalized substrates.

The cleavage of C-O linkages in aryl ethers in biomass-derived lignin compounds without hydrogenation of the aromatic rings is a major challenge for the production of sustainable mono-aromatics. Conventional strategies over the heterogeneous metal catalysts require the addition of homogeneous base additives causing environmental problems. Herein, we propose a heterogeneous Ru/C catalyst modified by Br atoms for the selective direct cleavage of C-O bonds in diphenyl ether without hydrogenation of aromatic rings reaching the yield of benzene and phenol as high as 90.3 % and increased selectivity to mono-aromatics (97.3 vs. 46.2 % for initial Ru) during depolymerization of lignin. Characterization of the catalyst indicates selective poisoning by Br of terrace sites over Ru nanoparticles, which are active in the hydrogenation of aromatic rings, while the defect sites on the edges and corners remain available and provide higher intrinsic activity in the C-O bond cleavage.
