A highly efficient catalytic enantioselective [4+2] cycloaddition was developed between 2-benzothiazolimines and enecarbamates. The main objective of this work was to design an innovative method to prepare heterogeneous heteropolyacid catalysts. The heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 (HPW) was modified with tin(II) by two methodologies: a conventional aqueous ion-exchange (CS) and a redox solid-state (SS). In both cases, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements evidenced that Keggin structure was preserved. All materials were active in the esterification of lactic acid with several alcohols and a mechanism was proposed. The best results were obtained for octanol and benzyl alcohol, where higher conversion values were obtained. The catalytic activity (turnover frequency, TON) showed an efficient performance for the materials prepared with 4 h of calcination (CS4h and SS4h). However, the catalyst prepared by the SS method was in accordance with the development of environmentally friendly processes.

Acetal and thioacetal groups are well known as protective functional groups in organic reactions. In this study, acetalization of carbonyl compounds with diols and dithiols and methoxymethylation of alcohols with formaldehyde dimethyl acetal (FDMA) have been carried out using sulfamic acid-functionalized magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (SA-MNPs) as a heterogeneous solid acid catalyst. Products were characterized by FT-IR and NMR spectroscopies. The structural and electronic properties of some products were computed by quantum mechanical (QM) methods. Depending on the stereochemistry and electronic properties that were obtained by computational results, we have suggested that hyperconjugation plays a key role in the structural properties of 2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane derivatives, and also the electron transfer between pi-electrons of the aromatic ring with the 3d orbital of S-atoms influences the 2-phenyl-1,3-dithiane derivatives’ structure.

The morphology and size of Co-MOF-74 were effectively controlled by adjusting the water portion in DMF-H2O mixed solvent system, and six different Co-MOF-74 samples were successfully obtained. The water content can alter the deprotonation rate of the organic ligand and then change the nucleation rate of crystal, thus regulate morphology and size of Co-MOF-74. The discrepancy of morphology and size has significant effect on texture structure of Co-MOF-74 but without changing their composition. The formation mechanism of crystal growth was proposed by studying the change of reaction solution pH value. These samples exhibit morphology and size dependent catalytic activity in toluene oxidation. The flower-like sample has the best catalytic performance with 12.1% toluene conversion and 63.8% benzaldehyde selectivity. Additionally, the influence of reaction parameters on the catalytic oxidation reaction was also examined. Rearserch on the structure-property relationship of catalyst would be useful for rationally synthesizing novel MOF in heterogeneous catalysis.

An efficient, cost-effective, transition-metal-free, oxidative C-H cross-dehydrogenative coupling via a C-H bond functionalization protocol for the regioselective direct C-3 acylation/benzoylation of substituted 2H-Indazoles 1a-m with substituted aldehydes 2a-q/benzyl alcohols 5a-e/styrenes 6a-e is reported. The operationally simple protocol proceeds in the presence of tert-butyl peroxybenzoate (TBPB) as an oxidant in chlorobenzene (PhCl) as a solvent at 110 degrees C for 24 h under an inert atmosphere, which furnished a diverse variety of substituted 3-(acyl/benzoyl)-2H-indazoles 3a-q/4a-l in up to 87% yields. The reaction involves a free-radical mechanism and proceeds via the addition of an in situ generated acyl radical (from aldehydes/benzyl alcohols/styrenes) on 2H-indazoles. The functional group tolerance, broad substrate scope, control/competitive experiments and gram-scale synthesis and its application to the synthesis of anti-inflammatory agent 11 and novel indazole-fused diazepine 13 further signify the versatile nature of the developed methodology.

In response to the increasing interest of western consumers in high antioxidant activity of green tea but their low acceptance of its green odor, we employed a new starter culture, Wolfiporia cocos to tune flavor of green tea infusion. After submerged fermentation for 17 h, W. cocos changed the characteristic green odor to an attractive floral, jasmine-like, and slightly citrus-like flavor while preserving most of in vitro antioxidant activity. By application of mSBSE-GC-MS-O combined with sensorial tests, the formed pleasant aroma was mainly attributed to methyl anthranilate (OAV 802), linalool (OAV 190), 2-phenylethanol (OAV 165), and geraniol (OAV 118). Concurrently, the catechin profile determined by UHPLC-MS showed diverse reduction rates (10-50%) for the individual catechins after fermentation. Nevertheless, up to 80% of in vitro antioxidant activity in DPPH assay was preserved. Overall, our findings provide an innovative approach to naturally flavor green tea while retaining the antioxidant activity.
