Herein, we report the preparation of lyotropic liquid crystalline (LLC) phases of Poly-beta-benzyl-L-aspartate (PBLA), a polymer that has not been known to form LLC phases before. Compared to other L-configured polypeptides usually forming right-handed helices, PBLA forms left-handed helices. The LLC phase behavior was observed for PBLA in a specific range of molecular weights, exclusively. Living polymerization allowed for this excellent control over the molecular weight. Furthermore, the LLC phase was used as a host matrix for two chiral analytes-isopinocampheol and beta-pinene-used as probes. The interaction between these probes and the polypeptide was measured indirectly using NMR spectroscopy by investigation of the resulting orientation of probes in general and the enantiodifferentiation of the chiral analytes in particular. By comparison of the orientation induced on the probes by PBLA and the well-known poly-beta-benzyl-L-glutamate, the effect of side-chain flexibility and conformation of the polypeptides on the alignment process are discussed.

Hierarchically porous P substituted HZSM-5 (H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M ) was successfully synthesized by isomorphous substitution method with introduced P atoms into ZSM-5 zeolite frameworks followed by alkali treatment. H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M was characterized by XRD, ICP-OES, SEM, FT-IR, N-2 adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, XPS, Py-IR, and TG-DTA, respectively. The surface area, pore volume, particle size and P/Al (molar ratio) are 328 m(2).g(-1), 0.23 cm(3).g(-1), 563 nm and 0.027, respectively. The catalytic performance of H[P, Al]-ZSM-5-AT-0.05 M in coupling reaction of methanol with 1-butene was investigated in the fixed-bed reactor. On the condition of reaction temperature at 500 degrees C under atmosphere pressure, the main product is propylene with the selectivity and yield of 33.7% and 31.0%, respectively. Hydrogen transfer index was calculated to 0.24. Moreover, its diffusion limitation was investigated with the self-etherification of benzyl alcohol reaction. The value of Thiele modulus (eta) and effectiveness factor (phi) are 0.08 and 16.9, respectively.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a critical gasotransmitter playing an important role in various physiological and pathological processes. The development of fluorescent probes for rapid, sensitive, and selective lysosomal H2S sensing has attracted much attention. Herein we report a rhodamine based probe MF-N-3 that can selectively accumulate in lysosomes and give turn-on fluorescence in the presence of both H2S and protons. Results show that MF-N-3 has an exclusive response to H2S in the acidic lysosomal environment but does not respond in other organelles or in neutral environments. This strategy can circumvent the fluorescence interference from H2S of other sources, thus providing a high sensitivity and selectivity on lysosomal H2S imaging by fluorescence microscopy. This pH-dependent lysosome-targeting fluorescent probe has been successfully applied to lysosomal H2S imaging in living cells and is of great potential for applications to the environmental and biological systems.

Obtucarbamate A was purified from Disporum cantoniense with good antitussive property. In present work, a series of obtucarbamate A derivatives were designed and synthesized from obtucarbamate A by microwave method, and their antitussive activity were evaluated. The results showed that the toluene diisocyanate was obtained with a yield of 95.1% using a simple method, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone as solvent, temperature of 190 degrees C, microwave irradiation at 60 W power for 30 min. All compounds have good antitussive activity, and small steric hindrance unsaturated groups of ester chains and amino groups favor activity. It is the first reported of obtucarbamate A derivatives used as antitussive, and the results provide a basis for the application of obtucarbamate derivatives as new antitussive.

The aroma of an instant white tea (IWT) was extracted through simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE) and analyzed by sensory evaluation, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactometry (GC-MS-O), aroma reconstruction, omission test and synergistic interaction analysis. Sensory evaluation showed the IWT was dominated with floral and sweet notes. The SDE extract had the aroma similar to the IWT. The main volatile components in the SDE extract were benzyl alcohol, linalool, hotrienol, geraniol, alpha-terpineol, coumarin, camphene, benzeneacetaldehyde, 2-hexanone,cis-jasmin lactone and phenylethyl alcohol. GC-MS-O and aroma reconstruction experiments showed 16 aroma-active compounds. Linalool,trans-beta-damascenone and camphene were the major contributors to floral, sweet and green notes based on flavor dilution analysis and omission test. Linalool andtrans-beta-damascenone had synergistic effect to promote floral and sweet notes. Camphene andtrans-beta-damascenone had synergistic effect to reduce green and sweet notes. The study helps to understand the aroma of IWT and antagonism interactions among aroma-active volatiles.

The enantioselective dichlorination of alkenes is a continuing challenge in organic synthesis owing to the limitations of selective and independent antarafacial delivery of both electrophilic chlorenium and nucleophilic chloride to an olefin. The development of cheap and robust heterogeneous catalysts for the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction is desirable due to the difficulties in product isolation and catalyst recovery associated with the traditional use of homogeneous catalysts for MPV. Herein, we show that microwave heated gamma-Al(2)O(3)can be used for the reduction of aldehydes to alcohols. The reaction is efficient and has a broad substrates scope (19 entries). The products can be isolated by simple filtration, and the catalyst can be regenerated. With the use of microwave heating, we can direct the heating to the catalyst rather than to the whole reaction medium. Furthermore, DFT was used to study the reaction mechanism, and we can conclude that a dual-site mechanism is operative where the aldehyde and 2-propoxide are situated on two adjacent Al sites during the reduction. Additionally, volcano plots were used to rationalize the reactivity of Al(2)O(3)in comparison to other metal oxides.
