Chiralpak ZWIX(+) and ZWIX(-), are brush-type bonded-silica chiral stationary phases (CSPs), based on complex diastereomeric Cinchona alkaloids derivatives bearing both a positive and a negative charge. In the present study, we aimed to improve the understanding of retention and enantioseparation mechanisms of these CSPs employed in supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). For this purpose, 9 other stationary phases were used as comparison systems: two of them are commercially available and bear only a positive charge (Chiralpak QN-AX and QD-AX) and the 7 others were designed purposely to be structurally similar to the parent ZWIX phases, but miss some portion of the complex ligand. First, cluster analysis was employed to identify similar and dissimilar behavior among the 11 stationary phases, where ionic interactions appeared to dominate the observed differences. Secondly, the stationary phases were characterized with linear solvation energy relationships (LSER) based on the SFC analysis of 161 achiral analytes and a modified version of the solvation parameter model to include ionic interactions. This served to compare the interaction capabilities for the 11 stationary phases and showed in particular the contribution of attractive and repulsive ionic interactions. Then the ZWIX phases were characterized for their enantioseparation capabilities with a set of 58 racemic probes. Discriminant analysis was applied to explore the molecular structural features that are useful to successful enantioseparation on the ZWIX phases. In particular, it appeared that the presence of positive charges in the analyte is causing increased retention but is not necessarily a favorable feature to enantiorecognition. On the opposite, the presence of negative charges in the analyte favors early elution and enantiorecognition. Finally, a smaller set of 30 pairs of enantiomers, selected by their structural diversity and different enantioseparation values on the ZWIX phases, were analyzed on all chiral phases to observe the contribution of each structural fragment of the chiral ligand on enantioselectivity. Molecular modelling of the ligands also helped in understanding the three-dimensional arrangement of each ligand, notably the intra-molecular hydrogen bonding or the possible contribution of ionic interactions. In the end, each structural element in the ZWIX phases appeared to be a significant contributor to successful enantioresolution, whether they contribute as direct interaction groups (ion-exchange functions) or as steric constraints to orientate the interacting groups towards the analytes. Electrode materials that combine the high energy density of batteries and the high power density of supercapacitors become an increasing need for current and near-future applications. Ta2O5 delivers a high theoretical capacity but suffers from unsatisfactory rate capabilities. Here we prepare a structurally disordered Ta2O5 nanoparticle aerogel via a nonaqueous sol-gel process followed by CO2 super-critical drying. The resulting aerogels exhibit large surface area, high porosity, fast ion diffusion, and extrinsically pseudocapacitive Li+/Na+ storage behavior (through surface redox reactions). With these merits, when evaluated as anode material for both lithium-ion and sodium-ion half cells (LIBs and NIBs), the Ta2O5 aerogels show excellent rate capabilities (97.0 and 43.7 mA h g(-1) at 5000 mA g(-1) for LIBs and NIBs, respectively) and highly stable cycling performance (20000 cycles at 5000 mA g(-1) and 10000 cycles at 1000 mA g(-1) without obvious capacity fading for LIBs and NIBs, respectively). This work introduces Ta2O5, a typical conversion-type metal oxide without intrinsic pseudocapacitance, as a promising anode material with high extrinsic pseudocapacitance for both LIBs and NIBs, which may open the door to achieve high-rate alkali-ion storage with low synthesis cost for durable microbatteries. The compositions of volatile compounds in fresh mushrooms varied with their genotype species, maturity and growth conditions. This study aimed to identify volatile compounds in five growth stages of two genotype (A15 and W192) Agaricus bisporus species and used mathematical analysis to explain result. A total of 67 different compounds were identified by HS-SPME-GC-MS. Nine key-aroma substances including alcohols, ketones and aldehydes were found by Venn diagram and odor activity values. This improved method can be quickly analyzed the different samples characteristic volatile compounds without time consuming through quantifications. The sum of aroma compounds concentration was highest in the seedling stage (0.5-1.5 cm) and decreased with growth. Meanwhile, benzene acetaldehyde and 3-octanone as dominate parts of overall-aroma maybe affected by benzaldehyde and 3-nonanon during the mushroom growth. Since the harvest stage (3-5 cm). The mushroom flavor of A15 is more abundant than that of W192, therefore, A15 is more suitable for industrial production.

The activation of dioxygen is the major challenge in the catalytic oxygenation of hydrocarbons under mild conditions. In this study, the catalytic efficiency for the aerobic oxidation of toluene and its derivatives by using cobaltmeso-tetraphenylporphyrin was enhanced by using acetylacetone as the oxygen activator. The influences of reaction conditions such as solvent, different metalloporphyrin catalysts, temperature, pressure and acetylacetone loading were studied, as well as the kinetics of the oxidation. Various toluene derivatives could also be oxidized to the corresponding products in satisfactory yields with this catalytic system. Based on the characterization ofin situelectron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) andin situUV-vis spectroscopy, the catalytic mechanism was also proposed, in which acetylacetone served as the key initiator of the free radical in activating dioxygen.

Objective Various drugs administered to horses undergoing surgical procedures can release histamine. Histamine concentrations were evaluated in horses prepared for surgery and administered butorphanol or morphine intraoperative infusions. Study design Prospective studies with one randomized. Animals A total of 44 client-owned horses. Methods In one study, anesthesia was induced with xylazine followed by ketamine-diazepam. Anesthesia was maintained with guaifenesin-xylazine-ketamine (GXK) during surgical preparation. For surgery, isoflurane was administered with intravenous (IV) morphine (group M: 0.15 mg kg(-1) and 0.1 mg kg(-1) hour(-1); 15 horses) or butorphanol (group B: 0.05 mg kg(-1) and 0.01 mg kg(-1) hour(-1); 15 horses). Histamine and morphine concentrations were measured using enzyme-linked immunoassay before opioid injection (time 0), and after 1, 2, 5, 30, 60 and 90 minutes. In a subsequent study, plasma histamine concentrations were measured in 14 horses before drug administration (baseline), 15 minutes after IV sodium penicillin and 15 minutes after starting GXK IV infusion. Statistical comparison was performed using ANOVA for repeated measures. Pearson correlation compared morphine and histamine concentrations. Data are presented as mean +/- standard deviation. Significance was assumed when p < 0.05. Results With histamine, differences occurred between baseline (3.2 +/- 2.4 ng mL(-1)) and GXK (5.2 +/- 7.1 ng mL(-1)) and between baseline and time 0 in group B (11.9 +/- 13.4 ng mL(-1)) and group M (11.1 +/- 12.4 ng mL(-1)). No differences occurred between baseline and after penicillin or between groups M and B. Morphine concentrations were higher at 1 minute following injection (8.1 +/- 5.1 ng mL(-1)) than at 30 minutes (4.9 +/- 3.1 ng mL(-1)) and 60 minutes (4.0 +/- 2.5 ng mL(-1)). To understand the individual enological function of different unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs), the separated effects of three different UFAs, linoleic acid (LA), oleic acid (OA), and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), on yeast fermentation and aroma compounds were investigated in the alcoholic fermentation of Cabernet Sauvignon wine. The results showed that, besides concentration, UFAs types could also influence fermentation process and volatiles in final wine. Low concentrations of UFAs (12 and 60 mg/L), especially LA and OA, significantly promoted fermentation activity and most volatiles when compared to the control, however, the effect became the inhibition with increasing concentrations of UFAs (120 and 240 mg/L). It was interesting to find that OA addition (12 and 60 mg/L) could generate more acetate esters (especially isoamyl acetate) in wine, while 12 mg/L LA facilitated more fatty acids formation (octanoic acid and decanoic acid). In comparison, 120 and 240 mg/L ALA produced more amount of C6 alcohols (1-hexanol) and higher alcohols (isobutyl alcohol and 2,3-butanediol). UFAs additions were unfavorable for ethyl esters formation, except for an increment of ethyl hexanoate in 12 mg/L OA wine. As a result, different aromatic profiles of wines were generated by variations of UFAs types and levels, as shown by PCA. The transcriptional data revealed that the expressions of aroma-related genes, such as BAT1, BAT2, PDC1, PDC5, PDC6, ACC1, FAS1, ATF1, EEB1, and EHT1 were correlated with aroma compounds productions in different treatments. Our data suggested that the three UFAs have different enological functions and they could generate different aromatic profiles. Thus, besides concentrations, it is essential to consider the types of UFAs when applying the strategy to adjust UFAs contents to modulate the aromatic quality of wines.

Liquid liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for ternary systems of methyl isopropyl ketone (MIPK) + 2,3-/3,4-/3,5-dimethylphenol + water was determined from 298.15 K to 338.15 K under 101.3 kPa in this work. Distribution coefficient and selectivity were calculated to investigate solvent extraction efficiency of dimethylphenol from water and their high values indicated that MIPK could extract dimethylphenols well. As a promising biodegradable and biorenewable alternative to ubiquitous petrochemical plastics, poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) can be widely employed in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. In this work, triblock copolymers, poly(L-lactide)-b-poly(2-methyl-1,3-propanediyl adipate)-b-poly(L-lactide) (PLLA-b-PMPA-b-PLLA)s, were synthesized by two-step polymerization from 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (MP), adipic acid (AA) and L-lactide (LLA) as new biodegradable thermoplastic elastomers. The copolymers exhibited glass-transition temperature at below -40 degrees C and melting temperature at 140-160 degrees C. These copolymers showed much higher elongation at break and lower tensile modulus than those of PLLA. Enzymatic degradation tests of the obtained copolymers were performed using proteinase K and lipase PS as catalysts in hydrolysis reaction to demonstrate rapid degradation for these copolymers. Seawater biodegradability test was conducted for 28 days for each sample. Mixed fermentation of Pichia fermentans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae was designed to circumvent the problem of weak aroma in Chinese spine grape wines. Spine grape, Xiang Pearl, was used for wine production by red wine making processes. Physicochemical indices were measured using titratable and spectroscopic methodologies. Volatiles were quantified by SPME-GC-MS, and aroma attributes were analyzed by trained panelists. Results showed mixed fermentation benefited color properties by improving total anthocyanin, polymeric anthocyanin, and total tannin contents. The content of varietal compounds, except those of thiols, were reduced, whereas fermentative compounds contents, especially those of higher alcohols, esters, and phenylethyls, were increased by mixed fermentation. Sensory analysis showed mixed fermentation enhanced fruity and floral traits in wine; this was confirmed by mathematical regression showing elevated levels of fermentative volatiles dominated the contribution to pleasant aroma, whereas reduced content of varietal compounds, with the exception of thiols, correlated negatively with favorable characteristics.
