A series of esters of ferulic acid and alcohols were synthesized and characterized structurally. All tested synthetic compounds were more cytotoxic against HCT116 cell line (human colon carcinoma) than ferulic acid. Benzyl and phenylethyl esters of ferulic acid were the most active compounds (IC50 = 0.0077 and 0.0065 g/L, respectively). Feruloylated wheat-bran oligosaccharides were less active than free ferulic acid against HCT116 tumor cells.

The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of endo- and exo-peptidase treatment on certain structural characteristics of peptides and volatile compounds of porcine hemoglobin and whole blood hydrolysates. Porcine hemoglobin and whole blood were hydrolyzed by endo- and exo-peptidases. The presence of exopeptidases reduced the bitterness and altered the volatile profiles of protein hydrolysates. Exopeptidase treatment can release terminal amino acids from peptides, which in turn may contribute to formation of volatile compounds by Maillard reactions. In contrast, endopeptidases conferred a slightly bitter taste and different volatile profiles. For hemoglobin hydrolysates, principal component analysis revealed that proteases were categorized into three groups based on endo- or exo-peptidase activity. Whole blood is a more complex raw material, yet the proteases were still categorized in a similar fashion. This work contributes to understanding structural characteristics responsible for taste and volatile profiles of protein hydrolysates.

Molybdenum complex was immobilized on the extracted cellulose from Palmer amaranth plant (CLCSbMo). Then, by addition of graphene oxide/ZnO bio-nanocomposite to CLCSbMo, rGO/ZnO@CLCSbMo bio-nanopolymer was produced. It was characterized by SEM, FT-IR, TGA, DTA, XRD and EDAX. We describe the chemical synthesis of the fungal naphthopyrones YWA1 and fonsecin B, as well as their functionalization with an amine-spacer arm and the conjugation of the resulting molecules to three different functional tags (i.e., biotin, Oregon green, 1-[3-(succinimidyloxycarbonyObenzyl]-4-[5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-oxazolyl]pyridinium bromide (PyMPO)). In the present research, the aqueous-extract of Aloysia citrodora leaves (Ac.L) was chosen as mild steel (MS) inhibitor against 1 M HCl medium. In this study, a novel ionic liquid-modified magnetic mesoporous silica supported tungstate (Fe3O4@MCM@IL-WO4=) with core-shell structure is prepared, characterized and applied as recoverable catalyst in the green oxidation of alcohols. The magnetic mesoporous Fe3O4@MCM material was prepared through surfactant directed modification of magnetic iron oxides with tetramethoxysilane. The Fe3O4@MCM@EL-W-4(=) nanocatalyst was then prepared via chemical attachment of alkyl imidazolium chloride on Fe3O4@MCM followed by treatment with sodium tungstate. This catalyst was characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy, TG, EDX, low-angle and wide-angle PXRD, SEM, VSM and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses. The Fe3O4@MCM@IL-WO4= was applied as powerful catalyst in the green oxidation of alcohols using hydrogen peroxide oxidant under ultrasonic conditions. The corresponding carbonyl products were obtained in high yield and selectivity. The reusability, recoverability and durability of this catalyst have also been studied under applied conditions.

A combined experimental and theoretical study on the micro and macroscopic properties of liquid mixtures containing glycerol, as common component, and 2-butanol, 2,3-butanediol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, and benzyl alcohol is reported in this work. Thermophysical properties were measured over the whole compositions range in the 298.15 K-318.15 K temperature range and analyzed considering excess thermodynamic properties in terms of intermolecular forces. Quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics simulations were carried to analyze the properties of mixed systems in terms of the characteristics of hydrogen bonding, nanostructuring and molecular level effects. Rubber process oils (RPOs) are generally incorporated to rubber compounds for improving processability and also state-of-mix in some circumstances, for example; in the formulations having relatively high filler content. The aim of this work is to prepare the modified soybean oil (MSO) via transesterification reaction of soybean oil (SO) with benzyl alcohol. The success of modification was evidenced by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). After modification, the new absorption peaks at 3020 cm(-1)and 750 cm(-1)corresponding to -CH stretching vibration and C-H out-of-plane of aromatic were observed.H-1-NMR result also shows the signal of proton in aromatic ring at 7.40-7.55 ppm confirming the presence of aromatic ring in SO. The prepared MSO was then used as rubber processing oil (RPO) in tread compound formulation, and its performance was compared with unmodified SO, distillate aromatic extract oil (DAE) and treated distillate aromatic extract oil (TDAE). The incorporation of RPOs demonstrated cure retardation with a minimal magnitude found in the MSO-filled system. However, the addition of RPOs decreased the mechanical properties, i.e., hardness, modulus, tensile strength and tear strength. Among the studied RPOs, SO showed the poorest performance in terms of rubber mechanical properties, whereas MSO gave the rubber vulcanizate with comparable mechanical properties to DAE and TDAE. Similar to DAE and TDAE, the addition of MSO resulted in the improved wet grip with the sacrifice of rolling resistance.
