Histaminium tetrachlorozincate nanoparticles are prepared, characterized and applied as an effective and recoverable photocatalyst in the one-pot, green and multi-component synthesis of various chromenes by the reaction of dimedone and/or 1,3-cyclohexanedione, arylaldehyde and 4-hydroxycoumarin in high yields under solventless conditions at ambient temperature. This new catalyst is characterized by FT-IR, XRD, EDX, NMR, SEM and TEM techniques. The incorporation of histaminium ions into the framework of ZnCl42- significantly affected the photocatalytic activity of tetrachlorozincate such that good reusability and recyclability are attained. Moreover, reactive species such as O-2(-) and hydroxyl radicals have proved to be active species in the presented photocatalytic reaction. In addition, the hot filtration test confirms enough stability of the photocatalyst and no significant leaching and destruction of the framework in the course of the reaction. The major advantages of the presented methodology include easy work-up, cost effectiveness, nontoxic nature, broad substrate scope, 100% atom economy, ease of separation, and environment friendly reaction conditions. Finally, the catalyst could be reused many times without significant loss of activity.

A series of Ephedra based oxadiazinones have been prepared, acylated, and examined in the asymmetric conjugate addition reaction with Grignard reagents in the presence of copper(I) bromide-dimethyl sulfide complex. The highest diastereoselectivity that was obtained in the conjugate addition reaction was observed with the (1R,2S)-ephedrine based N-4-methyloxadiazinone (5:1 d.r.) favoring the formation of the (S)-configuration of the conjugate addition product. Efforts to enhance the level of diaster-eoselection via increasing the steric volume of the stereo-directing N-4-substituent of the oxadiazinone (N-4- = p-methoxyphenyl or -isopropyl) led to an observed decrease in the level of diastereoselection. A computational study was conducted to examine the conformations adopted by the N-4-methyloxadiazinone vs. the N-4-isopropyl-oxadiazinone that yielded the lower diastereoselectivity. An argument is made for the stereoelectronic properties of the N-4-substituent being the cause of both the moderate diastereoselectivity and the unexpected facial preference for the conjugate addition. The preparation of homoallylic alcohols by addition of organometallic allyl compounds to carbonyls is an important strategy in organic chemistry. Allylating organometallic cobalt species can be generated employing stoichiometric quantities of Zn acting as reductant. To avoid the employment of stoichiometric amount of Zn, we have developed an allylation reaction of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes promoted by photoredox catalysis in the presence of a cobalt complex, and we present herein a full account of our research. In the presence of the abundant CoBr2 (10 mol %), 4,4 ‘-di-tert-butyl-2,2 ‘-dipyridyl (dtbbpy, 10 mol %), allyl acetate (3 equiv.), [Ir(dtbbpy)(ppy)(2)]PF6 (ppy=2-phenylpyridine, 2 mol %), and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (4 equiv.), an allylation of aldehydes is taking place, in moderate to good yields. Substrates scope, limitations, and photophysical investigations of this new process are reported.

In this study, we present a versatile and easy procedure for modifying a cobalt ferrite nanoparticle step by step. A new nanocatalyst was prepared via Cu(II)immobilized onto CoFe2O4@HT@Imine. The catalyst was fully characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analyses. The current procedure as a green protocol offers benefits including a simple operational method, an excellent yield of products, mild reaction conditions, minimum chemical wastes, and short reaction times. Without any significant reduction in the catalytic performance, up to five recyclability cycles of the catalyst were obtained. The optimization results suggest that the best condition in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol derivatives is 0.003 g of the CoFe2O4@HT@Imine-Cu(II)catalyst, TEMPO, at 70 degrees C under solvent-free condition and air.

N-PEGylated-thiazolium salt is used as efficient catalyst for the benzoin condensation. Essential oils (EOs) from anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum) collected in the Algerian region were extracted by microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) and hydrodistillation (HD). The oil yield (%), chemical composition, energetic consumption and the antimicrobial properties were evaluated of the obtained EO. The yields obtained by both processes were 2.81 +/- 0.01% for 90 minutes and 3.30 +/- 0.05% for 330 minutes for MAHD and HD, respectively. The determination of the chemical composition of EOs by GC-MS revealed the presence of a majority compound,trans-anethole 81.52% and 91.31% for MAHD and HD, respectively. The other main compounds present in the oils for MAHD and HD were, respectively: methyl chavicol (estragole) (0.63%-1.39%),cis-anethole (0.23%-0.34%), anisaldehyde (1.1%-1.57%), anisyl methyl ketone (0.28%-0.13%),trans-methyl isoellgenol (0.31%-0.17%),gamma-himachalene (0.5%-0.36%),trans-pseudoisoeugenyl 2-methylbutyrate (6.53%-2.53%) and epoxy-pseudoisoeugenyl 2-methylbutyrate (2.01%-0.56%). The EO obtained by MAHD detected other compounds, fenchone 0.41%, limonene 0.68%,cis-jasmolacatone extra C 0.41%,trans-isolongifolanone 0.2% and alpha-himachalene 0.16%. The energetic consumption by MAHD was significantly less than HD. Theoretical data from mathematical modelling were compared with practical data, and the coefficient of determination was between 0.93 and 0.97. The sensibility of bacterial strains to the essential oil obtained by MAHD is marked relatively to that obtained by HD, and for the sensibility of fungal strains, it was conserved. The MAHD process revealed a good yield of anise seeds EOs while reducing extraction time and energetic consumption. The EO extracted by this process revealed the presence of other compounds while improving antibacterial activity.

Aim: Tumor cells adapt to hypoxic microenvironments by releasing the key transcription factor HIF-1 alpha, which promotes angiogenesis, glycolytic phenotype, metastasis and erythropoiesis, allowing proliferation amid low oxygen levels. An adequate enhancement in the development of resistance by microbial pathogens against the available chemotherapeutic agents prompted us to find out some new chemotherapeutic agents with significant therapeutic effect as antimicrobials. The present study reported the designing of 6-(1H-indol-3-yl)-4,5 ‘-bipyrimidine-2-amine (2) and its Schiff’s bases (3-12), and the computational studies were performed to assess properties (drug likeness and physicochemical). The computationally bioactive compounds (1-12) were then followed for synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial therapeutic effect and percent viability of cells. The antimicrobial therapeutic effect was obtained by disk diffusion method, in terms of zone of inhibition and minimum inhibitory concentration against the gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria [S. aureus (ATCC-25923), S. epidermidis (ATCC-29887)], [E. coli (ATCC-25922), P. mirabilis (ATCC-25933)]. The antimicrobial screening findings reveled that all the compounds (1-12) possessed very good activity and strongly recommended the computational results. The antibiotic ciprofloxacin and the solvent DMSO were used as positive and negative control in the study. The percent viability of the cells was observed using HepG2 cells by MTT assay and noticed that the percent viability of the cells was found in the range 93-97% at lowest concentration 3.125 mu M while 73-77% at the highest 100 mu M. All the compounds (1-12) and ciprofloxacin were then applied for molecular docking assessment to estimate the H-bonding with the residues of GlcN-6-P-synthase, and the findings revealed that significant H-bonding was observed with the binding affinity in the range of – 8.4 to 6.7 kcal/mol and – 7.6 to 6.0 kcal/mol, respectively.
