The C(sp(2)-H)-trifluoromethylation of hydrazones would give access to the alpha-trifluoromethylated hydrazones that can serve as intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceutically interesting fluorinated compounds. Herein, we demonstrate the Cu-catalyzed C(sp(2)-H)-trifluoromethylation of the aldehyde hydrazones using the readily available and cost effective Langlois reagent (sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate). This reaction is broadly applicable to a series of aromatic aldehyde N-aminomorpholine hydrazones to give the corresponding C(sp(2))-trifluoromethyl hydrazones in moderate to high yields. The reaction generally tolerates a series of electron-releasing as well as electron-withdrawing substituents on the aromatic ring.

A novel ionic liquid modified graphene oxide supported Mo-complex [GO@IL/MoO2(acae)(2)] was successfully prepared, characterized and its catalytic application was investigated. The GO@IL/MoO2(acae)(2) catalyst was prepared through the surface modification of graphene oxide with alkyl imidazolium chloride followed by treatment with molybdenyl acetylacetonate. The GO@IL/MoO2(acae)(2) catalyst was characterized by using FT-IR, PXRD, TGA, EDX, and SEM analyses. This catalyst showed high activity in the green production of pyrazolo[b] phthalazine dione derivatives under ultrasonic conditions. The designed catalyst was effectively recovered and successfully reused at least eight times without significant loss in its efficiency.

The [2 + 2] photodimerization of chalcones, cinnamates and cinnamamides can be effectively catalyzed by heteroleptic copper(I) complexes. The reactions were carried out under mild reaction conditions and the products were obtained in 20-72% yield under visible light irradiation. The copper-based photocatalyst comprised of the rigid phenanthroline ligand with substituents at the 2,9-positions and the 4,7-positions showed high activity in the photodimerization via an energy transfer pathway. An expeditious microwave assisted one-pot sequential route to synthesize pyrido fused imidazo[4,5-c]quinolines via the Pictet-Spengler cyclization strategy has been developed. In this study, substituted 2-amino pyridines are condensed with 2-bromo-2 ‘-nitroacetophenone to generate imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines with nitro group functionality at C-2 position. Reduction of nitro group to its amine congener in green media followed by the Pictet-Spengler cyclization strategy with substituted aldehydes led to the formation of new C-C and C-N bonds in a one-pot sequential manner. The cyclization proceeds through the CO(carbonyl)-C(H) cleavage of the aldehyde group via oxidative cross-coupling, transamination, cyclization and aromatization steps. Low cost reagents and a green solvent were used to facilitate the architecturally beautiful pyrido fused imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline scaffolds in high yields. The key features of this synthetic protocol are the use of microwave-assisted mild reaction conditions, one-pot sequential pathway, broad substrate scope and green media, which make it feasible for the synthesis of fused polyheterocycles. Moreover, the synthetic manipulation proceeded well with heteroaromatic and aliphatic aldehydes also in good yields.

Small-ring heterocycles comprising pyrrole and pyrazole are well known for their rich biological properties. In this article, an efficient green sonochemical approach was designed for the synthesis of novel, fully substituted pyrroles connected to pyrazole scaffolds via a one-pot, four-component isocyanide-based sequential reaction. This reaction was carried out using various 5-amino-pyrazoles, aldehydes, dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates and isocyanides for the synthesis of fully functionalized pyrroles with high chemoselectivity in the presence of a catalytic amount of PTSA center dot H2O, in good to excellent yields under ultrasound irradiation. This waste-free (-H2O) reaction exhibited a high atom economy and step economy via creating four new bonds, including two C-N and two C-C bonds, and the formation of two five-member heterocycles which are connected in a single operation. The mechanism of this four-component domino process involved sequential imination-dipolar cyclization-[1,5]-H shift reactions. The synthesized compounds possess interesting fluorescence features, and the bioactive scaffolds might attract great interest in the fields of clinical diagnostics and biomedical research in the future.

Corrosion inhibition of mild steel (MS) by a series of 4-aminoantipyrine-based Schiff base has been studied in 1 N HCl aqueous medium adopting electrochemical method at different concentration (10(-2)-10(-5) M) and temperature (303-333 K). All of the inhibitors were found to be dominated by cathodic/anodic in nature (mixed type). Electrochemical impedence and polarization studies were in agreement with each other. The surface morphology (smoothness and roughness) was characterized by SEM, which indicates the formation of protective layer on the MS surface. The substituents on the Schiff bases influence their corrosion inhibition properties. Schiff bases having -OCH3, -OH and -NMe2 substituents exhibit more inhibition tendency as compared to other substituents. The role of cross conjugation in electron donating as well as accepting properties by heteroatom (N, O) and pi-electrons in corrosion inhibition was clearly observed from DFT calculations. Monolayer formation on the MS surface has been confirmed from the Langmuir isotherm fitting. Thermodynamic modeling has been done to understand the nature of adsorption. The values of Delta G (>-30 kJ/mol/K) indicate the existence of both physical and chemical interactions between the Schiff base molecules and metal surface. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. The present study evaluated the effects of essential oil (EO) from anise (AO), clove (CO) and thyme (TO) on the performance of lactating Shame goats. Eight lactating Shame goats with average body weight 34.90 +/- 0.9 kg and 3 years old were randomly assigned to four treatments in a duplicated 4 x 4 Latin square design, with four periods of 22 days. In each period, the goats were adapted to the treatments for 15 days and the remaining 7 days was used for sample collection. Goats were fed a basal diet without supplementation (control) or supplemented with anise (AO), thyme (TO) or clove (CO) at a daily dose of 2 mL/head/d. Feed intake was not affected by EO supplementations. Digestibility of organic matter, ether extract and acid detergent fibre was higher (P < 0.05) with EO supplementations when compared with the control. Supplementations of EO had no effect on milk (g/d) yield, protein and lactose, as well as the composition (g/kg) of protein and lactose. Fat yield (g/d) and fat content (g/kg) were greater (P < 0.05) in EO supplemented goats versus those on the control diet. Compared with control, ruminal ammonia-N was not affected whereas, ruminal pH was increased (P = 0.02) with EO supplementations. Rumen total volatile fatty acid concentration and molar proportion of acetate (C2) were higher (P < 0.05) in goats fed CO and TO compared to control, whereas propionate (C3) and butyrate (C4) and C2:C3 proportions were unchanged with EO inclusion. With the exception of a decrease (P = 0.05) in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) with EO supplementations, other blood parameters were not affected. Milk C8 and C12 fatty acids (FA) were lower (P < 0.05) with EO supplementations compared with control. Composition of unsaturated and monounsaturated FA was higher (P < 0.05) and polyunsaturated FA was decreased (P < 0.05) with EO supplementations compared with control. Proportions of C18:1 n-9 C18:3 n-3 and n-3 FA were increased (P < 0.05) and proportions of C18:3 n-6 C20:4 n-6 and n-6 FA were decreased (P < 0.05) in goats fed EO compared to the control group. Overall, all three EOs tested in this study had beneficial effects on digestion, rumen fermentation parameters and milk composition including milk FA profile. Herein we report an exclusively ligand-centered redox controlled approach for the dehydrogenation of a variety of N-heterocycles using a Zn(II)-stabilized azo-anion radical complex as the catalyst. A simple, easy-to-prepare, and bench-stable Zn(II)-complex (1b) featuring the tridentate arylazo pincer, 2-((4-chlorophenyl)diazenyl)-1,10-phenanthroline, in the presence of zinc-dust, undergoes reduction to form the azo-anion radical species [1b]which efficiently dehydrogenates various saturated N-heterocycles such as 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-methylquinoline, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline, indoline, 2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzoimidazole, 2,3-dihydro-2-phenylquinazolin-4(1H)-one, and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-phenylquinazolines, among others, under air. The catalyst has further been found to be compatible with the cascade synthesis of these N-heterocycles via dehydrogenative coupling of alcohols with other suitable coupling partners under air. Mechanistic investigation reveals that the dehydrogenation reactions proceed via a one-electron hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) pathway where the zinc-stabilized azo-anion radical ligand abstracts the hydrogen atom from the organic substrate(s), and the whole catalytic cycle proceeds via the exclusive involvement of the ligand-centered redox events where the zinc acts only as the template.

Based on the broad spectrum of biological activity of hydrazide-hydrazones, trifluoromethyl compounds, and clinical usage of cholinesterase inhibitors, we investigated hydrazones obtained from 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzohydrazide and various benzaldehydes or aliphatic ketones as potential inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). They were evaluated using Ellman’s spectrophotometric method. The hydrazide-hydrazones produced a dual inhibition of both cholinesterase enzymes with IC50 values of 46.8-137.7 mu M and 19.1-881.1 mu M for AChE and BuChE, respectively. The majority of the compounds were stronger inhibitors of AChE; four of them (2-bromobenzaldehyde, 3-(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone, and camphor-based 2o, 2p, 3c, and 3d, respectively) produced a balanced inhibition of the enzymes and only 2-chloro/trifluoromethyl benzylidene derivatives 2d and 2q were found to be more potent inhibitors of BuChE. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)-N’-[4-(trifluoromethyl)benzylidene]benzohydrazide 2l produced the strongest inhibition of AChE via mixed-type inhibition determined experimentally. Structure-activity relationships were identified. The compounds fit physicochemical space for targeting central nervous systems with no apparent cytotoxicity for eukaryotic cell line together. The study provides new insights into this CF3-hydrazide-hydrazone scaffold.
