A mononuclear manganese(iii)-peroxo complex [Mn-III(N3Py2)(O-2)](+) (1a) bearing a non-heme N,N ‘-dimethyl-N-(2-(methyl(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)ethyl)-N ‘-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (N3Py2) ligand was synthesized by the reaction of [Mn(N3Py2)(H2O)](ClO4)(2) (1) with hydrogen peroxide and triethylamine in CH3CN at 25 degrees C. The reactivity of 1a in aldehyde deformylation using 2-phenyl propionaldehyde (2-PPA) was studied and the reaction kinetics was monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy. A kinetic isotope effect (KIE) = 1.7 was obtained in the reaction of 1a with 2-PPA and alpha-[D-1]-PPA, suggesting nucleophilic character of 1a. The activation parameters Delta H-double dagger and Delta S-double dagger were determined using the Eyring plot while E-a was obtained from the Arrhenius equation by performing the reaction between 288 and 303 K. Hammett constants (sigma(p)) of para-substituted benzaldehydes p-X-Ph-CHO (X = Cl, F, H, and Me) were linear with a slope (rho) = 3.0. Computational study suggested that the side-on structure of 1a is more favored over the end-on structure and facilitates the reactivity of 1a.

A transition-metal-free method for the alkylation of gem-diborylalkanes with alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones has been developed. It is demonstrated that the alpha-boryl radicals can be generated efficiently from gem-diborylalkanes with the aid of catechol and oxidants. The alpha-boryl radicals formed through such process can be engaged in conjugate addition reaction with alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones. This transformation is a straightforward method for the synthesis of gamma-borylketones.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is multifactorial, progressive neurodegeneration with impaired behavioural and cognitive functions. The multitarget-directed ligand (MTDL) strategies are promising paradigm in drug development, potentially leading to new possible therapy options for complex AD. Herein, a series of novel MTDLs phenylsulfonyl-pyrimidine carboxylate (BS-1 to BS-24) derivatives were designed and synthesized for AD treatment. All the synthesized compounds were validated by (HNMR)-H-1, (CNMR)-C-13, HRMS, and BS-19 were structurally validated by X-Ray single diffraction analysis. To evaluate the plausible binding affinity of designed compounds, molecular docking study was performed, and the result revealed their significant interaction with active sites of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). The synthesized compounds displayed moderate to excellent in vitro enzyme inhibitory activity against AChE and BuChE at nanomolar (nM) concentration. Among 24 compounds (BS-1 to BS-24), the optimal compounds (BS-10 and BS-22) displayed potential inhibition against AChE; IC50 = 47.33 +/- 0.02 nM and 51.36 +/- 0.04 nM and moderate inhibition against BuChE; IC50 = 159.43 +/- 0.72 nM and 153.3 +/- 0.74 nM respectively. In the enzyme kinetics study, the compound BS-10 displayed non-competitive inhibition of AChE with Ki = 8 nM. Respective compounds BS-10 and BS-22 inhibited AChE-induced A beta(1- 42) aggregation in thioflavin T-assay at 10 mu M and 20 mu M, but BS-10 at 10 mu M and 20 mu M concentrations are found more potent than BS-22. In addition, the aggregation properties were determined by the dynamic light scattering (DLS) and was found that BS-10 and BS-22 could significantly inhibit self-induced as well as AChE-induced A beta(1- 42) aggregation. The effect of compounds (BS-10 and BS-22) on the viability of MC65 neuroblastoma cells and their capability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in PAMPA-BBB were further studied. Further, in silico approach was applied to analyze physicochemical and pharmacokinetics properties of the designed compounds via the SwissADME and PreADMET server. Hence, the novel phenylsulfonyl-pyrimidine carboxylate derivatives can act as promising leads in the development of AChE inhibitors and A beta disaggregator for the treatment of AD. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Iran is the largest pistachio (Pistacia vera) producer in the world. Nevertheless, pistachio by-products (PBs) contain a high level of phenolic and cellulose compounds, it can be used as a substrate for the preparation of solid acid catalysts. In this work, the novel pistachio hull-OxTiCl4 (-) (x) catalyst was synthesized via preparing pistachio hull, product of Kerman, as a support followed by treatment with titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) and identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The size of the nano-pistachio hull-OxTiCl4 (-) (x) nanocatalyst was shown by a scanning electron microscope below 100 nm. The catalytic activity of the solid acid catalyst has been successfully examined in a one-pot, three-component condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes, dimedone and kojic acid in refluxing ethanol to furnish dihydropyrano[3,2-b]chromendione derivatives. Consequently, pyran annulated heterocycles were obtained. The proposed approach has some advantages as excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, use of agricultural waste and eco-friendly.

In this study, a graphene oxide (GO) functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid was prepared by covalently immobilization of organic (3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane) and inorganic (H3PMo12O40) groups on the basal plane of GO. Although the number of reported corrosion inhibitors has increased steeply in recent years, global corrosion damages raised the need for highly effective, new promising compounds for corrosion protection of metals and their alloys. Herein, chemical and electrochemical testing methods like weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) measurements were applied to evaluate the inhibition performance and adsorption mechanism of (Z)-4-((4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione (2C) against carbon steel (CS) corrosion 1.0 M HCl. Together, electrochemical results and morphological evidence from scanning electron microscope (SEM) demonstrated that, in the presence of 2C, the inhibition efficiency reaches a maximum of 86% at 10(-3), forming a compact protective layer on CS surface. On the other hand, corrosion inhibition decreases a little with the rise of the temperature. The investigated compound was classified as a mixed class inhibitor, affecting both anodic and cathodic reactions, while its adsorption followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum chemical calculations were used to give further insights into the inhibiting action of 2C and to explain its mechanism of action. An efficient and sustainable protocol for the hydration of alkynes has been developed under metal/acid/catalyst/ ligand-free conditions in a water/ethyl lactate mixture. The hydrogen-bond network in the ethyl lactate and water mixture plays a crucial and decisive role in activating the alkynes for hydration to afford the corresponding methyl ketones. This strategy gives the Markovnikov (ketone) addition product selectively over other possible products. The essential role of hydrogen bonding has been confirmed by experimental and theoretical techniques. A probable mechanism has been suggested by various control tests. The efficacy of the method has been further explored for the competent production of value-added alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds through the reaction of aldehydes with alkynes as ketonic surrogates. The environmentally benign hydration method takes place under mild conditions, has broad functional-group compatibility, and uses the ethyl lactate/water (1:3) medium as a green alternative in the absence of any hazardous, harmful, or expensive substances. The novel copper(II) ions decorated Fe3O4@SiO2 composite magnetic spheres were synthesized by grafting copper(II) ions onto glucosamine modified Fe3O4@SiO2 NPs. In this study, we have designed, synthesized and full characterized a novel biological based acidic nano organocatalyst via condensations reaction of uric acid and phosphorous acid. The obtained compound was named theacrine tetrakis(phosphonic acid) (TTPA) and prepared under refluxing ethanol. This new nano organocatalyst was applied as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for the preparation of novel pyridines with indole moieties via a cooperative vinylogous anomeric based oxidation with good to excellent yields.

The polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane complexes, {[(isobutyl)(7)Si7O12]ZrOPri center dot(HOPri)}(2) (I), {[(cyclohexyl)(7)Si7O12]ZrOPri center dot(HOPri)}(2) (II), {[(isobutyl)(7)Si7O12]HfOPri center dot(HOPri)}(2) (III) and {[(cyclohexyl)(7)Si7O12]HfOPri center dot(HOPri)}(2) (IV), were synthesized in good yields from the reactions of M(OPri)(4) (M = Zr, Hf) with R-POSS(OH)(3) (R = isobutyl, cyclohexyl), resp. I-IV were characterized by H-1, C-13 and Si-29 NMR spectroscopy and their dimeric solid-state structures were confirmed by X-ray analysis. I-IV catalyze the reductive etherification of 2-hydroxy- and 4-hydroxy and 2-methoxy and 4-methoxybenzaldehyde and vanillin to their respective isopropyl ethers in isopropanol as a green solvent and reagent. I-IV are durable and robust homogeneous catalysts operating at temperatures of 100-160 degrees C for days without significant loss of catalytic activity. Likewise, I-IV selectively catalyze the conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into 2,5-bis(isopropoxymethyl)furane (BPMF), a potentially high-performance fuel additive. Similar results were achieved by using a combination of M(OPri)(4) and ligand R-POSS(OH)(3) as a catalyst system demonstrating the potential of this in situ approach for applications in biomass transformations. A tentative reaction mechanism for the reductive etherification of aldehydes catalysed by I-IV is proposed.
