We report on the tetraethylphosphorodiamidate (-OP(O)(NEt2)(2)) group as an effective directed metalation group (DMG). Lithiation-electrophile quench of 1 provides a general synthesis of ortho-substituted aryl and naphthyl phosphorodiamidates 4-8. We also describe the phospha anionic ortho-Fries (AoF) rearrangement of the phosphorodiamidates 1a,1b -> 2 or 3 and its vinylogous counterpart to the ortho-tolyl phosphorodiamidates 5b -> 13. Intermolecular competition experiments demonstrate the approximately equal DMG strength of the -OP(O)(NEt2)(2) and the most powerful OCONEt2 groups.

A fast and facile synthesis of TiO2- Al2O3 nanocomposite based on Microwave (MW) irradiation is presented. The nanocomposite development were corroborated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX),and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)analysis. The XPS analyzed results affirmed that elements on the nanocomposite surface were Al and O. Electrochemical properties of the as prepared TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposites were studied thoroughly to determine the sensing activity of the nanocomposites towards 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) which is a harmful or hazardous chemical using I-V method. Selective electrochemical sensor using TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposite onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was assembled and the details electrochemical investigation of 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) was developed. It was calibrated using in range of 3,4-DAT concentration and data were plotted as current versus concentration. Considering the highest linearity (r(2)=0.99)of calibrated range, the linear dynamic range (1.0 pM similar to 1.0 mu M) was found. Employing the slope of calibration curve, the sensitivity (0.5024×10(3) mu A mu M(-1)cm(-3)) and detection limit (0.19 +/- 0.01 pM) were estimated. Besides this, the selective 3,4-DAT chemical sensor was shown long-term stability and precious reproducibility with very short response time without any interference effect.

In the present investigation, a series of dihydrotriazine derivatives-bearing 5-aryloxypyrazole moieties were synthesized and their structures were confirmed by different spectral tools. The biological evaluation in vitro revealed that some of the target compounds exerted good antibacterial and antifungal activity in comparison with the reference drugs. Among these novel hybrids, compound 10d showed the most potent activity with minimum inhibitory concentration values (MIC) of 0.5 mu g/mL againstS. aureus4220, MRSA 3506 and E. coli 1924 strain. The cytotoxic activity of the compounds 6d, 6m,10d and 10g was assessed in MCF-7 and HeLa cells. Growth kinetics study showed significant inhibition of bacterial growth when treated with different conc. of 10d. In vitro enzyme study implied that compound 10d exerted its antibacterial activity through DHFR inhibition. Moreover, significant inhibition of biofilm formation was observed in bacterial cells treated with MIC conc. of 10d as visualized by SEM micrographs. [GRAPHICS] .

Three isomers of benzoxazine monomers based on m-alkoxyphenol and 4,4′-methylenedianiline were synthesized and successfully isolated by column chromatography. The molecular structures of benzoxazine monomers were confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The polymerization behavior evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) shows that the asymmetric isomer, which has a methoxy group at the 5-position and 7-positions (5,7’MO-ddm), has only one exothermic peak between temperatures of the other two symmetric isomers. The H-1 NMR spectrum of monomers shows that the type and position of alkoxy groups can exert different effects on the electron density of the oxazine ring, and may result in a sensitive trend of ring-opening. The difference in electron densities was verified by the Gaussian simulation calculation results of natural charges. In this work, we provide a fundamental molecular-level understanding of the polymerization mechanism of asymmetric bis-benzoxazines, which can provide possibilities for designing new benzoxazines in order to solve the potential disadvantages of benzoxazines/polybenzoxazines and/or enhance their advantages.

Useful fuels and chemicals can be produced from lignin by microwave-assisted pyrolysis, but a dearth of understanding of this process impedes its successful implementation. Continuous mass loss kinetics of the pyrolysis of Kraft lignin pellets were carried out in an innovative reactor system comprised of a high-Q cylindrical microwave resonant cavity and a specially designed quartz reactor, in the temperature range of 300-700 ?C. Multiphysics numerical simulations indicated that both absorbed power and resulting temperatures profiles are heavily dependent on position of the sample relative to the electric field. Kraft lignin degradation (5 g samples) was complete in about 40 s, which was much faster than conventionally heated reactors. Activation energies (5-22 kJ/mol) and pre-exponential factors (0.06-0.64 s-1) were indicative that the process is low in energy consumption. At higher temperatures, phenols and phenolics were the major constituents of the bio-oil. A reliable method of obtaining microwave-assisted mass loss kinetics continuously is established.

Synthesis of fluorescent molecules has drawn considerable attention due to their potential applications in life and material sciences. Here we report a metal-free approach to a new class of fluorophore, namely, 6-(2-hydroxyarypisoindolo[2,1-a]quinoxalin-11(5H)-ones exploiting ninhydrin ring system via base promoted tandem cyclization. The readily obtainable phenolic adducts of ninhydrin undergoes smooth reaction with o-phenylenediamine in refluxing ethylene glycol/Et3N via breaking of C-C bond, N-insertion, followed by heterocyclization to furnish the fully unsaturated isoindoloquinoxaline framework. Structures of the products are in good agreement with their IR, 1HNMR, (CNMR)-C-13, and mass spectral data. The photophysical properties of the synthesized compounds were studied by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques under ambient conditions, and the results reveal an interesting property of large Stokes shift.

A radical-mediated conversion of phenol derivatives to anilines is reported, using unfunctionalized hydroxamic acids as the N-centered radical source. Novel 1-(1-benzoylpiperidin-4-yl)methanamine derivatives with high affinity and selectivity for serotonin 5-HT1A receptors were obtained and tested in four functional assays: ERK1/2 phosphorylation, adenylyl cyclase inhibition, calcium mobilization, and beta-arrestin recruitment. Compounds 44 and 56 (2-methylaminophenoxyethyl and 2-(1H-indol-4-yloxy)ethyl derivatives, respectively) were selected as biased agonists with highly differential signaling fingerprints that translated into distinct in vivo profiles. In vitro, 44 showed biased agonism for ERK1/2 phosphorylation and, in vivo, it preferentially exerted an antidepressant-like effect in the Porsolt forced swimming test in rats. In contrast, compound 56 exhibited a first-in-class profile: it preferentially and potently activated beta-arrestin recruitment in vitro and potently elicited lower lip retraction in vivo, a component of serotonergic syndrome. Both compounds showed promising developability properties. The presented 5-HT1A receptor-biased agonists, preferentially targeting various signaling pathways, have the potential to become drug candidates for distinct central nervous system pathologies and possessing accentuated therapeutic activity and reduced side effects.
