Herein, we report a general and simplified synthesis of fluorophosphonates directly from p-nitrophenylphosphonates. This FP on-demand reaction is mediated by a commercially available polymer-supported fluoride reagent that produces a variety (25 examples) of fluorophosphonates in high yields while only requiring reagent filtration for pure fluorophosphonate isolation. This reaction protocol facilitates the rapid profiling of serine hydrolases with diverse and novel sets of activated phosphonates with differential proteome reactivity. Moreover, slight modification of the procedure into a reaction-to-assay format has enabled additional screening efficiency.

The conversion of silyloxyarenes to boronic acid pinacol esters via nickel catalysis is described. In contrast to other borylation protocols of inert C-O bonds, the method is competent in activating the carbon-oxygen bond of silyloxyarenes in isolated aromatic systems lacking a directing group. The catalytic functionalization of benzyl silyl ethers was also achieved under these conditions. Sequential cross-coupling reactions were achieved by leveraging the orthogonal reactivity of silyloxyarenes, which could then be functionalized subsequently.

1,2,3-Triazole contained conjugated porous polymers (CPPs) have recently emerged as a new class of efficient photocatalysts. To gain more insight into the excellent photocatalytic activity of this kind of CPPs, herein, we report the design and preparation of a series of 1,2,3-triazole-based CPPs via oxidative coupling polymerization to study their photocatalytic performance. These CPPs have donor-acceptor properties and 1,2,3-triazole serves as an electron acceptor. The resulting CPPs with thiophene, carbazole and diphenylamine as electron donor units, respectively, have distinct porosities and optoelectronic properties, and showed effective photocatalytic performance towards oxidative hydroxylation of arylboric acids and alkylation of vinylarenes with diethyl bromomalonate or bromoacetonitrile. The thiophene contained CPP was a more efficient photocatalyst for the catalytic reactions, which can be attributed to its smaller optical band gap and greater charge separation effi-ciency. Furthermore, PTPT has shown reliable recyclability with no significant loss in its catalytic activity.

A modest, competent and green synthetic procedure for novel coumarinyl-1,3,4-oxadiazolyl-2mercaptobenzoxazoles 8i-t has been reported. Analysis of the docked (PDB ID: 5IKR; A-Chain) poses of the compounds illustrated that they adopt identical conformations to the extremely selective COX-2 inhibitor. The biological outcomes as well as computational study suggested that the compounds originated to have elevated resemblance towards COX-2 enzyme than COX-1. The compounds 8i, 8l, 8q, 8r, 8s and 8t emerged as most potent and selective COX-2 inhibitors in contrast with Mefenamic acid. The selectivity index of 8l, 8n and 8r was respectively found to be 33.95, 20.25 and 24.98 which manifested their high selectivity against COX-2. Interestingly, the compounds which were active as COX-2 inhibitors were also active as antioxidant agents.

Quantum chemical calculations with the M06-2X method were performed to uncover the ozonolysis mechanism of guaiacol and several hydroxylated, methoxylated, and methylated phenols to improve the understanding of the ozone-induced attenuation of phenolic compounds. The detailed kinetic properties were obtained by the transition state theory (TST) and the Rice – Ramsperger – Kassel – Marcus (RRKM) theory. Results confirm that the primary ozonides originated from guaiacol occupy considerably long retention time than the short-lived primary ozonides formed from vinyl-type compounds in the air. The TST rate constant of guaiacol ozonolysis is calculated with a value of 8.81 x 10-20 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 at room temperature. The RRKM results prove that the rate constant is positively dependent on temperature but shows no relation with pressure. The reactivity of substituted phenols exhibits a strong correlation with the ozone affinity of carbon atoms and the orbital energy difference (ELo-Hac) between the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of O3 and the highest occupied molecular orbital of phenols. The substituents can reduce the value of ELo-Hac and improve the phenols’ reactivity, especially when they locate at the ortho- and para-position. The substituents also improve the ozone affinity of carbon atoms due to the electron-withdrawing effect. The methyl group delivers a moderate impact on the reactivity compared to hydroxyl and methoxy groups.

The kinetics of the photoelectrochemical mineralization of p-nitrophenol (PNP) and p-methoxyphenol (PMP) on rutile:anatase TiO2 nanotube electrodes (% rutile: 0, 16, and 20) has been studied. Oxidative photocurrent enhances with the increase of both the electrode potential and the rutile content. Time-resolved photoluminescence measurements reveal that incorporation of rutile into anatase nanotubes has effects on recombination dynamics. From measurements of electrical charge as a function of time under thin-layer conditions under potentiostatic control, it was determined that the oxidation of PNP and PMP follows the apparent Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate law. Chemical oxygen demand measurements confirmed total oxidation. The reaction rate parameters that define the kinetic constant (k) due to the reaction of hydroxyl radicals with adsorbed phenols and the thermodynamic constant (K) due to the adsorption of phenols with the electrode surface have been decoupled. The interaction of PNP with the surface of all TiO2 electrodes is highly favored, K(PNP) > K(PMP), resulting in a surface concentration of PNP considerably higher than that of PMP. The specific rate of the surface reaction for the transformation of phenols also increases, but the trend is inverse, that is, for all electrodes, k(PMP) > k(PNP). Understanding these kinetic tendencies can lead to better transformation of light in redox reactions.

Hydrothermal treatment of gadolinium nitrate and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC) afforded a new metal-organic framework compound, {[Gd-4(NDC)(6)(H2O)(6)]center dot 2H(2)O}n(1). Compound 1 has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, therrmogravimetric analysis (TGA) and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. It is crystallized in the monoclinic system with the P2(1)/n space group. Four crystallographically distinct Gd (III) centres are interconnected with each other through bridged carboxylato oxygen atoms and water molecules to form tetranuclear secondary building units, which are further connected through the carboxylato ligand and the network propagates along the crystallographic ac plane to form a 2D structure. Subsequent reinforcement from the remaining carboxylato oxygen atoms gives rise to a robust 3D framework structure. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrates that compound 1 is fairly stable after dehydration under a nitrogen atmosphere. Notably, compound 1 is capable of catalyzing the O-arylation reaction efficiently between substituted phenols and bromoarene under heterogeneous conditions at 80 degrees C to afford unsymmetrical diarylethers. The synthesis of aryl phosphonates via nickel and palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl fluorosulfonates and phosphites is described. The products were obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions with broad functional group compatibility, employing either Pd(OAc)(2) and DPEPhos or the readily available NiCl2(dme) and Xantphos as catalytic systems. Noteworthily, the present C(sp(2))-P bond formation method could be applied to the direct conversion of phenols to the corresponding aryl phosphonates in one pot via reaction of phenols with SO2F2 and subsequent palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling.
