Solid-phase microextraction (SPME), purge and trap (P&T), stir bar sportive extraction (SBSE), and dynamic headspace sampling (DHS) were applied to extract, separate and analyze the volatile compounds in the roots of Hangbaizhi, Qibaizhi, and Bobaizhi and the GC-O-MS/MS (AEDA) was utilized for the quantification of key aroma compounds. Totals of 52, 54, and 43 aroma-active compounds extracted from the three samples by the four extraction methods were identified. Among these methods, the SPME effectively extracted the aroma compounds from the A. dahurica. Thus, using the SPME methods for quantitative analysis based on external standards and subsequent dilution analyses, totals of 20, 21, and 17 aroma compounds were detected in the three samples by the sniffing test, and sensory evaluations indicated that the aromas of A. dahurica included herb, spice, and woody. Finally, principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the three kinds A. dahurica formed three separate groups, and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) showed that caryophyllene, (-)-beta-elemene, nonanal, and beta-pinene played an important role in the classification of A. dahurica.

Provided with proper loadings of the two catalytic components, block copolymers with strict (AB)(n)B-m type sequence structures and controlled molar mass (up to 60 kg mol(-1)) can be generated in one synthetic step, and the block architecture can be enriched by the use of mono-, di-, or tetrahydroxy initiators. A method for the synthesis of diverse polysubstituted quinolines from readily available acrylic acids and anthranils has been developed. The weakly coordinating -COOH directing group, which can be tracelessly removed in the cascade cyclization, is essential for this reaction. Dichloroacetate (DCA) as a mitochondria-targeting small molecule, through inhibition of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases (PDK1-4), promotes mitochondria-regulated apoptosis and hence, inhibits tumour growth and reduces its proliferation. In this study, a series of novel N-aryl-2,2-dichloroacetamide and aryl-2,2-dichloroacetate derivatives were designed and synthesized. Their cytotoxic activities against various human cancer cell lines including A549, HCA-7, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, KB and SKOV3 were evaluated. These compounds showed satisfactory potencies with much higher anticancer activity than the parent compound DCA, against the studied cancer cell lines. Molecular docking studies were also done to find their binding site and types of their interactions with PDKs isoenzymes. Among the synthesized compounds, 2,2-dichloro-N-(9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydroanthracen-1-yl)acetamide (f1) can also induce A549 cells apoptosis. Therefore, compound f1 might have a potential value for further study in drug development. QSAR studies of this class of compounds were also explored using a collection of chemometrics methods. At the first time, we elaborated the method of synthesis of naphtho[1,2-b]benzofurans based on photoinduced reaction of acrylonitriles containing 2-arylbenzofuran fragment as part of 1,3,5-hexatriene system. The considered reaction proceeds via initial 6 pi-electrocyclization followed by [1,9]-H sigmatropic shift and final oxidative aromatization of central benzene ring. It was shown that 5,6-dihydronaphtho[1,2-b]benzofurans are key intermediates of studied process. Oxidation of alcohols plays an important role in industrial chemistry. Novel green techniques, such as sonochemistry, could be economically interesting by improving industrial synthesis yield. In this paper, we studied the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol as a model of aromatic alcohol compound under various experimental parameters such as substrate concentration, oxidant nature and concentration, catalyst nature and concentration, temperature, pH, reaction duration, and ultrasound frequency. The influence of each parameter was studied with and without ultrasound to identify the individual sonochemical effect on the transformation. Our main finding was an increase in the yield and selectivity for benzaldehyde under ultrasonic conditions. Hydrogen peroxide and iron sulfate were used as green oxidant and catalyst. Coupled with ultrasound, these conditions increased the benzaldehyde yield by +45% compared to silent conditions. Investigation concerning the transformation mechanism revealed the involvement of radical species.

A series of glycosylated 1,4-substituted triazolyl chalcone derivatives (8a-f and 14a-r) were synthesized in high yield using 1,3-cycloaddition (Click chemistry) of D-glucosyl azides with a variety of propargylated chalcone derivatives followed by de-O-acetylation. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic potential against the human breast carcinoma cell lines and non-cancerous cells. Unsaturated vegetable oils and their corresponding fatty acid derivatives constitute interesting renewable platforms for the preparation of heterocycles, notably through the formation of oxygenated intermediates. In this work, fatty imidazoles were prepared from the corresponding 1,2-diketones through Debus-Radziszewski reaction. The reaction was optimized under microwave irradiation using a 1,2-diketone derived from methyl oleate and ammonium acetate as a nitrogen source. Using benzaldehyde as a model substrate, the reaction occurs at 180 degrees C for 5 min and the desired imidazole was formed in 96 % GC yield. A range of aldehydes was tested under the optimized conditions and the corresponding imidazoles were obtained in 33-99 % isolated yields (20 examples).
