Alkylidene carbenes undergo rapid inter- and intramolecular reactions and rearrangements, including 1,2-migrations of beta-substituents to generate alkynes. A miscible-immiscible deep eutectic solvent (DES) containing monoethanolamine/4-methoxyphenol was used as an extraction solvent in a homogeneous liquid-liquid microextraction (HLLME). The method was used to preconcentrate chlorobenzenes in water samples followed by separating and analyzing them by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). A special feature of the new extraction method is that a green miscible solvent was used as an extractant in the HLLME method. The developed extraction technique provided enrichment factors in the range of 13.1-42.1 for extraction from only 1.0 mL of the aqueous sample solution. The effects of various experimental parameters were investigated and optimized. The optimal conditions were as follows: vortex time: 30.0 s, bubbling CO2 gas: 1.0 min, salt concentration: 5.0% w/v, rate and time of centrifuge: 4000.0 rpm and 3.0 min, respectively, and DES volume: 30.0 mu L. The limit of detections and the limit of quantifications for the four targeted analytes varied from 0.01-0.15 and 0.025-0.5 mu g L-1, respectively. The precision and long-term precision tests for the developed method were found to be less than 11.0%. Two real samples, including toilet air freshener and car perfume, were analyzed. Headspace gas chromatography is frequently used for aroma profiling thanks to its ability to naturally exploit the volatility of aroma compounds, and also to provide chemical information on sample composition. Its main advantages rely on simplicity, no use of solvent, amenability to automation, and the cleanliness of the extract. In the present contribution, the most effective sampling (dynamic extraction), separation (multidimensional gas chromatography), and detection (mass spectrometry) techniques for untargeted analysis are exploited in combination, showing their potential in unraveling aroma profiles in fruit beers. To complete the overall analytical process, a neat workflow for data analysis is discussed and used for the successful characterization and identification of five different beer flavors (berries, cherry, banana, apple, and peach). From the technical viewpoint, the coupling of purge-and-trap, comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry makes the global methodology unique, and it is for the first time discussed. Fingerprint development is one of the most useful techniques in forensic investigation. The powder method is widely used, as it consists of a non-destructive testing. However, some of the powders commonly used are toxic and dangerous to human health. In this sense, monofunctional analogues of curcumin (3a-e) are proposed as novel coloring powders for the development of latent fingerprints. Granulometric and scanning electron microscopy analysis were performed for a better understanding of the interaction between developers and substrates. The best results for the development of fingerprints were obtained with compound (1E,4E)-1,5-di-p-tolylpenta-1,4-dien-3-one (3b). Development with this compound was specific and allowed detection both from male and female donors. Also, in an in vitro experiment, compound 3b presented low cytotoxicity in a mammalian cell line. Based on that, a novel alternative for latent fingerprint developers was proposed.

In this work, one pot, simple and environmentally benign effective synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazole and benzothiazoline derivatives are described in presence of PFPAT (pentafluorophenylammonium triflate) catalyst in water successfully. Volatile compounds of raw and cooked adzuki beans under three cooking methods namely frying, roasting, and boiling were extracted and identified. The odorants in raw beans changed from green and grassy to roasted and nutty in fried and roasted beans. Roasted adzuki beans had the greatest number of volatile compounds and best flavor properties. Because volatiles improve biscuit flavor profiles, biscuits were prepared in which wheat flour was substituted with adzuki bean flour and/or millet flour. The effects of grain flours on the sensory acceptability and aroma of biscuits were evaluated. Descriptive sensory analysis showed that the adzuki bean-millet biscuit had the best sensory quality. Correlation of volatile compounds, biscuit sensory attributes, and biscuit samples showed that maltol contributed to the caramel-like aroma of adzuki bean-millet biscuits. Adzuki bean and millet flours have potential in the development of biscuits that meet flavor and nutritional requirements.

We revealed a catalyst-free, green and rapid one-pot four-component tandem strategy for the preparation of dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles – a biologically significant scaffold – via Knoevenagel-Michael cyclocondensation based on green chemistry principles. An amine-functionalized metal organic framework (MOF) was used as highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for Knoevenagel condensation of various aromatic aldehydes and ketones in ethanol. The catalytic efficiency was demonstrated by the high conversion of the reactants with 100% selectivity under microwave (mu W) irradiation, while dramatically reduced the reaction time as compared to the conventional heating method.
