5-Benzyloxy-1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-1H-indole (3.14 g) was dissolved in 10% THF/methanol (80 mL), and 10% palladium hydroxide/carbon (50 mg) was added to the solution at room temperature. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes under a stream of hydrogen at ambient pressure. The reaction mixture was filtered through a Celite pad, and the catalyst was washed with methanol. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and ethyl acetate (50 mL) was added to the residue. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration, whereby the title compound (1.85 g) was yielded.
