High yield 3-hydroxy benzaldehyde-N-methyl 4-stilbazolium tosylate (3-HBST) was synthesized by optimizing the reaction temperature. High-quality bulk crystals of 3-HBST were grown by slow evaporation technique and spontaneous nucleation method, respectively. The crystal structure of 3-HBST was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and belongs to monoclinic system. The defects of the 3-HBST crystals were observed by the synchrotron radiation X-ray topography. 3-HBST crystal remains stable until 305 degrees C, with a melting point of 214.1 degrees C from the TG-DTG and DSC techniques. The dielectric constant of 3-HBST crystal was also studied. The grown crystal had good optical transparency and the optical transmittance was investigated by UV-vis-NIR spectral analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) indicated green emission occurred at 478 nm. Based on the growth technical analysis and performance parameters measurements, 3-HBST crystal was verified to be a promising organic nonlinear optical crystal.

Porous crystals with well-defined active metal centers on the pore surface have high potential as heterogeneous metal catalysts. We have recently demonstrated that a porous molecular crystal, metal-macrocycle framework (MMF), catalyzes olefin migration reactions by photoactivation of its (PdCl2)-Cl-II moieties exposed on the crystalline channel surface. Herein we report a mechanistic study of the photoinduced olefin migration reactions at the Pd-II active centers of MMF. Several experiments, including a deuterium scrambling study, revealed that olefin migration is catalyzed via an alkyl mechanism by in situ generated Pd-H species on the channel surface during photoirradiation. This proposed mechanism was further supported by DFT and ONIOM calculations.

A fast and facile synthesis of TiO2- Al2O3 nanocomposite based on Microwave (MW) irradiation is presented. The nanocomposite development were corroborated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX),and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)analysis. The XPS analyzed results affirmed that elements on the nanocomposite surface were Al and O. Electrochemical properties of the as prepared TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposites were studied thoroughly to determine the sensing activity of the nanocomposites towards 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) which is a harmful or hazardous chemical using I-V method. Selective electrochemical sensor using TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposite onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was assembled and the details electrochemical investigation of 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) was developed. It was calibrated using in range of 3,4-DAT concentration and data were plotted as current versus concentration. Considering the highest linearity (r(2)=0.99)of calibrated range, the linear dynamic range (1.0 pM similar to 1.0 mu M) was found. Employing the slope of calibration curve, the sensitivity (0.5024×10(3) mu A mu M(-1)cm(-3)) and detection limit (0.19 +/- 0.01 pM) were estimated. Besides this, the selective 3,4-DAT chemical sensor was shown long-term stability and precious reproducibility with very short response time without any interference effect.

A series of seven luminescent copper(I) dithiophosphonate (dtp) clusters of the type Cu4L4 (L = S2PR(OR’)(-)) were formed from CuCl2 center dot 2H(2)O precursor in aqueous medium under ambient conditions. The dtp ligand serves the dual function of acting as a sacrificial reducing agent and cluster core stabilizer. The new clusters were characterized by H-1 and P-31 NMR and ESI-MS, and the single-crystal X-ray structures for two representative clusters [Cu-4{(S2P(1,4-C6H4OMe)(OR’)}4] (R’ = OCH(CH3)(2); CH2C6H5) were determined. The redox reaction yielded clusters in satisfactory yield, and all exhibited luminescence with lambda(em)(max) in the range 519-534 nm and half-lives in the range 10-14 mu s.

It is desirable but challenging to design efficient micro-/nanoreactors for chemical reactions. In this study, we have fabricated mesoporous double-shelled hollow microreactors composed of N-doped-C-coated ultrafine In2O3 nanoparticles [N-C/In2O3 HD (hollow dodecahedron)] by the thermolysis of a dodecahedral In-based framework in Ar atmosphere. The obtained N-C/In2O3 HD exhibited excellent activity in the photocatalytic oxidative hydroxylation of a series of arylboronic acid substrates. This property can be attributed to its enhanced optical absorption and efficient separation of photo-generated electron-hole pairs, imparted by the unique structure and uniformly coated N-doped C layers. Furthermore, we found O-2(.-) to be the critical active species in the process of photocatalytic oxidative hydroxylation of arylboronic acids, and the formation mechanism of this radical is also proposed. Theoretical calculations further confirmed that the N-doped C layer serves as an electron acceptor and revealed the microscopic charge-carrier migration path through the In2O3/N-doped graphite interfaces. Thus, photo-generated electrons from hybrid states of In2O3, composed of In 5s and 2p orbitals, are transferred into the hybrid states of N-doped graphite, composed of C 2p and N 2p orbitals. The present study may be helpful for understanding and designing carbon-based micro-/nanoreactors for photocatalytic reactions, and may also be useful for investigating related micro-/nanoreactors.

Possible application of incorporating a well-known drug (benzocaine) with cyanoacetamide function to get a powerful synthon ethyl 4-cyanoacetamido benzoate. This synthetic intermediate was used as a precursor for the synthesis of triazine, pyridone, thiazolidinone, thiazole and thiophene scaffolds containing the benzocaine core. Facile coupling, Michael addition, condensation and nucleophilic attack reactions were used to synthesize our targets. The structural features of the synthesized scaffolds were characterized using IR,H-1 NMR,C-13 NMR and mass spectroscopy. The antibacterial activities against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa) were evaluated using ampicillin as a reference drug. DNA/methyl-green colorimetric assay of the DNA-binding compounds was also performed. Theoretical studies of the newly synthesized compounds based on molecular docking and QSAR study were conducted. An operationally simple and direct rhenium-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation (C-alkenylation) of unprotected phenols with alkynes was developed. The protocol provided ortho-alkenylphenols exclusively, and formation of para- or multiply alkenylated phenols and hydrophenoxylation (O- alkenylation) products were not observed. The [3 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of phenols and two alkynes via ortho-alkenylation was also demonstrated, in which the alkynes functioned as both two- and one-carbon units. These reactions proceeded with readily available starting materials under neutral conditions without additional ligands.
