The concept of eutectic molecular liquids (EMLs) was defined, and a strategy to form EMLs based on noncovalent interactions was proposed. We verified the formation and investigated the properties, interaction sites, and interaction energies of the obtained 16 EMLs. Moreover, two new forms of noncovalent interactions, kappa-hole and mu-hole bonding interactions, were proposed, which broaden the understanding of intermolecular interactions. Numerous EMLs can be strategically designed and prepared by simply mixing two parent molecule components based on noncovalent interactions, including hydrogen bonding interactions; pi-pi stacking; and sigma-hole (halogen, chalcogen, pnicogen, and tetrel bonds), pi-hole, kappa-hole, and mu-hole bonding interactions. The properties of EMLs can be finely tailored by selecting or even designing appropriate parent compounds for task-specific applications. Our work presents a substantial step toward the innovative development of liquid systems.

The voltammetric oxidation of five para-substituted acetophenone derivatives (containing nitro, chloro, bromo, methyl and hydroxyl groups as substituents) and that of benzophenone was studied on a platinum and glassy carbon electrode in acetonitrile media. Electrode passivation was observed in the case when all selected compounds are on a glassy carbon electrode; an oxidation peak appeared between 2.5 and 3 V. The voltammograms of 4′-hydroxyacetophenone showed an additional peak around 2 V, which may be associated with the oxidation of the phenol moiety. In the case of a platinum electrode, no relevant peaks appeared on the voltammograms, reflecting the absence of passivation. The use of a redox probe 1,4-dihydroxybenzene showed that the glassy carbon electrode, after cyclization in the solutions of the outlined compounds, has higher sensitivity towards the oxidation product (1,4-benzoquinone) of this compound. An efficient fluorocyclization of alpha,beta-unsaturated amides through a formal halocyclization process is developed. The reaction proceeds under transition-metal-free conditions and leads to the formation of fluorinated oxazolidine-2,4-diones with excellent regio- and diastereoselectivity. The evaluation of the reaction mechanism based on preliminary experiments and density functional theory calculations suggests that a synergetic syn-oxo-fluorination occurs and is followed by an anti-oxo substitution reaction. The reaction opens a new window in the field of stereospecific fluorofunctionalization.

Nitroso derivative of 2,7-diaryl-1,4-diazepan-5-ones 9-12 are synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic techniques such as IR, EI-MS and NMR spectra. The stereochemical investigation of nitroso compounds has been carried out with 1D (H-1, C-13 & DEPT-135) and 2D (COSY & HSQC) NMR spectral data. Rotational isomers (syn and anti rotamers) of 9-12 are identified and categorized by room temperature NMR spectral studies. Furthermore, the conformation of the ring and the orientation of N-N= O function have been arrived on the basis of chemical shifts, coupling constants and dihedral angles. In solution state, syn and anti rotamers of the compounds 9-11 exist in equilibrium between flattened boat conformation with quasi-axial orientations of the aryl groups at C-2 and C-7. Nevertheless, compound 12 and its syn and anti rotamers prefer to adopt equilibrium between chair conformations with axial orientation of aryl substituents. In order to validate the solution state conformation, the compound 12 is crystallized and the crystal structure is solved by single crystal XRD study. A clean and effective method has been developed for the regioselective of O-allylation of phenol derivatives using a recyclable Cu(I)-exchanged multi-size porous material. Ease of preparation of catalyst through simple solid-state exchange and its compatibility in producing excellent amount of O-allylated products and a plausible mechanistic pathway for the regioselectivity are highlighted. Background: Cancer continues to be the major health burden worldwide. There is an urgent need for the development of novel antineoplastic compounds to treat this devastating condition. Various alkylating anticancer drugs have been employed in the clinic for treating cancers. Unsaturated conjugated ketones are a group of alkylators which are of significant interest as potent antineoplastic agents. Objective: The goal of this study is to discover unsaturated conjugated ketones which are novel potent cytotoxins displaying growth-inhibitory properties towards neoplasms and also to serve as cytotoxic warheads in drug development. Methods: A variety of 3,5-bis (benzylidene)-4-piperidones 2a-n were synthesized and evaluated against a number of neoplastic cell lines. The short-term neurotoxicity of 2a-k, n was evaluated in mice by i.p. administration using doses level of 30, 100 and 300 mg/kg. Statistical correlations for determining structure-activity relationships were performed using an SPSS software. Results: A number of compounds display cytotoxic potencies in the region of 10(-7) to 10(-8) M and some of the structural features contributing to the cytotoxicity were identified. Compounds 2a-d, 2h demonstrated substantially higher cytotoxic potencies compared to melphalan and 5-fluorouracil against a panel of leukemic and colon cancer cell lines. These lead cytotoxins comply with drug-likeness properties. In general, the antineoplastics 2 are well tolerated in mice using a short-term neurotoxicity screening. Conclusion: In general, this group of compounds comprises excellent cytotoxic agents, which warrant their further development as cytotoxic warheads.

Aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AlEgens) have attracted increasing attention in recent years on account of their attribute of overcoming the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) phenomenon of conventional organic fluorophores. Despite their remarkable advantages and great developments, most organic AlEgens exhibit broad emission spectra with the full width at half-maxima (FWHM) over 100 nm, which is to the disadvantage of their practical applications. Herein, supramolecular polymeric AIE materials with brighter fluorescence and narrower emission band (higher color purity) than conventional AlEgens were developed by taking advantage of the light-harvesting strategy. These AIE materials, including nanoparticles, microfibers, and thin films, were fabricated from supramolecular polymers comprising quadruple hydrogen-bonded monomer tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and borondipyrromethene (BODIPY) as antenna chromophores and as energy acceptors, respectively. The excitation energy collected by TPE molecules was efficiently transferred to the BODIPY, resulting in up to 6 fold enhanced fluorescence intensity and narrowed emission band with FWHM decreasing from 148 to 32 nm. The resulting nanoparticles showed similar to 5-fold higher brightness than commercial quantum dots. The highly fluorescent nanoparticles were successfully applied for in vitro and in vivo fluorescence and chemiluminescence imaging, showing superior imaging performance to conventional AIE nanoparticles.
