Catalytic oxidation of alcohols containing heteroatoms with molecular oxygen is usually rather challenging, as transition metal catalysts are easily deactivated by heteroatoms. In contrast to conventional results, herein facile oxidation of 2-pyridinemethanol with dioxgyen was observed over simple vanadium catalysts including VOSO4 or VO(acac)(2), which seemed much easier than that of benzyl alcohol. 2-Pyridinemethanol could coordinate with the vanadium center, which would promote oxidation of 2-pyridinemethanol itself, rather than deactivate vanadium catalysts. This study would provide a new clue to develop efficient catalysts for transformations of heterocyclic compounds.

The effect of catalyst restructuring on the polydopamine-supported Pd catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of ethyl 4-nitrobenzoate and the catalytic hydrogenation of (E)-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid is reported. Transmission electron microscopy investigation of different catalyst pre-treatment and reaction conditions revealed high catalytic activity in both reactions unless drastic aggregation of the active metal occurred. In the transfer hydrogenation reaction aggregation was primarily dependent on the H-source used, while in the catalytic hydrogenation additives in combination with the reductive environment led to extensive Pd aggregation and thus decreased catalytic activity. The enantioselective hydrogenation of (E)-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid showed increased enantioselectivity and decreased conversion with increased particle size.

The conversion of silyloxyarenes to boronic acid pinacol esters via nickel catalysis is described. In contrast to other borylation protocols of inert C-O bonds, the method is competent in activating the carbon-oxygen bond of silyloxyarenes in isolated aromatic systems lacking a directing group. The catalytic functionalization of benzyl silyl ethers was also achieved under these conditions. Sequential cross-coupling reactions were achieved by leveraging the orthogonal reactivity of silyloxyarenes, which could then be functionalized subsequently.

First, we note in this paper that alpha-Hydroxyphosphonate acid ester was synthesized before; we confirmed it by a new method and its various properties are discussed experimentally and theoretically. The structure of Diethyl [hydroxy(4-methoxyphenyl) methyl] phosphonate (DH4MPMP) resolved by SXRD is compared to the optimized geometry, the FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopies results were compared and discussed experimentally and theoretically. The Hirshfeld surface analyses were employed to determine qualitative and quantitative intermolecular interactions present in the solid state and through, the supramolecular 3D-network was discussed. The UV-Vis spectrum exhibit a strong absorption in middle UV domain and an optical transmittance in the visible one. To be close from the experimental results, all DFT calculations based on B3LYP/6-31G (d,p) were detailed on monomer and dimer models. The DFT calculation of the second-order nonlinear optical properties is based on the first static hyperpolarizability (beta), the results show that the material might have nonlinear optical properties. The calculated frontier molecular orbitals and their energies were calculated. The research was extended to the calculations of the molecular electrostatic potential map; it shows negative potential areas localized around oxygen atoms as well as the positive localized around the hydrogen atoms. Finally, the thermodynamic functions (entropy, heat capacity and enthalpy) were determined from spectroscopic data by statistical methods in the range 100-1000 K and the experimental thermal decomposition behavior was analyzed by TGA. A palladium-catalyzed C-O bond formation reaction between phenols and allenylic carbonates to give 2,3-allenic aromatic ethers with decent to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions has been described.
