In this work, one pot, simple and environmentally benign effective synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazole and benzothiazoline derivatives are described in presence of PFPAT (pentafluorophenylammonium triflate) catalyst in water successfully. A series of benzothiazole derivative were synthesized by the reaction between 2-aminothiophenol and various aldehydes in good yields. Recyclability of the catalyst is observed for four times without loss of its activity in aqueous medium.

Characterization of volatile off-odor compounds in thermal duck egg gels was investigated by gas chromatography-olfactometry-mass spectrometry (GC-O-MS), odor activity values (OAVs) and aroma recombination. The results demonstrated that the off-odor of thermal duck egg mainly came from egg yolk (EY), and content of aldehydes was the highest in EY. Anaerobic treatment in nitrogen contributed to decreased off-odor sensory scores and volatile components of the heated egg gels. Aerobic EY gels (treated in air) were determined to contain eight volatile compounds with OAVs greater than 1, such as hexanal, nonanal, benzaldehyde, (E)-2-octenal, (E)-2-nonenal, (E, E)-2,4-decadienal, 1-octen-3-ol and 2-pentylfuran. However, three key volatile components (nonanal, benzaldehyde and (E)-2-nonenal) with OAVs greater than 1 were found in anaerobic EY gels. Moreover, on the basis of results of recombination and omission experiments, hexanal, (E)-2-octenal, (E, E)2,4-decadienal, 1-octen-3-ol and 2-pentylfuran were identified as key off-odor components in thermal EY gels. Sensory evaluation of the recombination model with five aroma compounds scored 4.38 out of 5 points. The major aroma profile of the off-flavor from egg EY gels included strong fatty, nutty, and mushroom aromas.

Copper-impregnated magnesium-lanthanum mixed oxide [Cu(II)/Mg-La] was used as catalyst in synthesis of homoallylic alcohols from aldehydes and ketones using allyltributylstannane as the allylating source. The present protocol provides a great application potential for the synthesis of corresponding allyl alcohols with excellent yields and selectivity. The catalyst exhibits broad functional group compatibility with a variety of substituted aldehydes and ketones to furnish the desired products in high yields under heterogeneous conditions. Importantly, the heterogeneous catalyst could be recovered from the reaction mixture by centrifugation and used up to three cycles.

The design and utilization of dual sites for synergistic catalysts has been recognised as an efficient method towards high-efficiency catalysis in the cyanosilylation of aldehydes, which gives key intermediates for the synthesis of a number of valuable natural and pharmaceutical compounds. However, most of the reported dual-site catalysts for this reaction were homogeneous, accompanied by potential deactivation through internal complexation of the dual sites. Herein, by the rational selection of an uncoordinated tertiary nitrogen based tricarboxylic ligand (tris[(4-carboxyl)-phenylduryl]amine, H(3)TCBPA), a new three-dimensional calcium-based metal-organic framework (MOF), Ca-3(TCBPA)(2)(DMA)(2)(H2O)(2) (1, where TCBPA = ionized tris[(4-carboxyl)-phenylduryl]amine and DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide), possessing accessible dual catalytic sites, Lewis-basic N and Lewis-acidic Ca, has been designed and constructed by a one-pot solvothermal reaction. As expected, 1 is capable of dually and heterogeneously catalysing the cyanosilylation of aldehydes at room temperature, and can be reused for at least 6 runs with a maximum turnover number (TON) of 1301, which is superior to most reported cases. Additionally, 1 shows CO2 adsorption ability and conversion with epoxides, which is beneficial for the establishment of a sustainable society.

Presented here is a highly efficient procedure for the selective hydrogenation of aldehydes in the presence of ketones and its application in equilibrium displacement in a one-enzyme procedure catalysed by.-transaminase. A palladium-based heterogeneous catalyst was chemically synthesized from K2PdCl4 and 1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-ylenediamine and found to be suitable for selective hydrogenation of aldehydes using H2 of 1 atm, with a wide spectrum of aldehydes being efficiently and selectively reduced to the corresponding alcohols with a selectivity of up to 99%. This catalyst and its developed procedure can be successfully applied in pushing the equilibrium to product formation during transamination in a.-transaminase-promoted one-enzyme procedure via hydrogenation of the co-product, and an array of chiral amines was afforded in good to excellent yields of up to 99% with ees of up to > 99%.

Sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) meat has not been fully utilised due to quality defects which were raised by Chinese sturgeon processing industry. This study was aimed to develop a high-quality sturgeon meat product and the effect of fermentation on qualities was studied. Results showed that fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae could enhance ‘mushroom’, ‘fruity’ and ‘chocolate’ flavour by 1-octen-3-ol, ethyl acetate and 3-methyl-butanal; and enrich flavour through mild lipid oxidation and hydrolysis. In addition, fermentation could give an attractive colour with higher a*, b* and L* value. Texture properties were also improved with higher hardness, springiness, gumminess and chewiness. Higher free amino acids, TCA-soluble peptides and taste score in fermented sturgeon meat indicated better flavour and taste. The organoleptic evaluation suggested an overall satisfactory of wine-aroma sturgeon meat by fermentation with S. cerevisiae.

Phenylpropanoids, common natural compounds, possess many different biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral. Spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV) can cause a high mortality in common carp (Cyprinus carpio). However, there are currently no licenced drugs that effectively cure this disease. In this study, we designed and synthesized a phenylpropanoid derivative 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-chromeno[4,3-d]pyrimidine-2,5(1 H)-dione (E2), and explored the antiviral effect against SVCV in vitro and in vivo. Up to 25 mg/L of E2 significantly inhibited the expression levels of SVCV protein genes in the epithelioma papulosum cyprini (EPC) cell line by a maximum inhibitory rate of >90%. As expected, E2 remarkably declined the apoptotic of SVCV-infected cells and suppressed potential enhancement of the mitochondrial membrane potential (Delta Psi m), these data implied that E2 could protect mitochondria from structural damage in response to SVCV. Meanwhile, E2 was added to EPC cells under four different conditions: time-of-addition, time-of-removal, pre-treatment of viruses and pre-treatment of cells indicated that E2 may block the post-entry transport process of the virus. Additionally, the up-regulation of six interferon (IFN)-related genes also demonstrated that E2 indirectly activated IFNs for the clearance of SVCV in common carp. Drug cure effect showed that treatment with E2 at 0.5 d post infection (dpi) is more effective than at 0, 1 or 2 dpi. Most importantly, intraperitoneal therapy of E2 markedly improved common carp survival rate and reduced virus copies in body. Therefore, the E2 has potential to be developed into a novel anti-SVCV agent.

A novel facile synthetic method for producing diphenylmethyl (DPM) ethers from 2-diphenylmethoxypyridine was developed. A variety of DPM ethers was successfully achieved with high yield via treatment of alcohols with 2-diphenylmethoxypyridine in the presence of catalytic FeCl3. A quinoxaline-based porous organic polymer (Q-POP) as a mesoporous organic copolymer was developed as a new platform for the immobilization of CuNPs and copper nanocrystals. The prepared materials were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, ICP, TGA, SEM, HR-TEM, EDX, and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The obtained catalyst presented extraordinary catalytic activity towards Ullmann C-O coupling reactions with high surface area, hierarchical porosity, and excellent thermal and chemical stability. Due to its high porosity, and synergistic effect of copper nanocrystals incorporated in the polymer composite, the as-synthesized catalyst was successfully utilized for the Ullmann C-O coupling reaction of phenols and different aryl halides to prepare various diaryl ether derivatives. All types of aryl halides (except aryl fluorides) were screened in the Ullmann C-O coupling reaction with phenols to produce diaryl ethers in good to excellent yields (70-97 %), and it was found that aryl iodides have the best results. Besides, due to the strong interactions between CuNPs, N, and O-atoms of quinoxaline moiety existing in the polymeric framework, the copper leaching from the support was not observed. Furthermore, the catalyst was recycled and reused for five consecutive runs without significant activity loss.
