The reactions of the trihydride niobocene complex [NbCp’H-2(3)] (Cp’ = eta(5)-C5H4SiMe3) (1) with different alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids have been studied. The reactions with fumaric and maleic acids (A and B) gave a new dinuclear carboxylato-containing niobocene derivative [(NbCp'(2))(2)(mu-kappa O-2,O-OOC-CH2-CH2-COO-kappa O-2,O)] (2), due to the occurrence of two processes, dihydrogen elimination and hydrogenation of the C=C bond of the alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid. Likewise, the use of an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative such as mono-methyl fumarate (ester) (C) gave the mononuclear [NbCp'(2)(OOC-CH2-CH2-COOMe-kappa O-2,O)] (3). When other alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids with less activated alkenes were used, such as trans-cinnamic acid (F), (E)-2-methyl-3-phenylacrylic acid (G), cyclohex-1-ene-1-carboxylic acid (H), 3-methylbut-2-enoic acid (I), (E)-2-methylbut-2-enoic acid (J) or (E)-pent-2-enoic acid (K), only the complexes [NbCp'(2)(OOCR-kappa O-2,O)], (R = trans-CH = CHPh (4), trans-CMe = CHPh (5), 1-cyclohexenyl (6), (CH = CMe2) (7), (cis-CMe = CHMe) (8), (trans-C(H) = CH-Et) (9)), were isolated, respectively, resulting from a process with dihydrogen elimination and the hydrogenation of the C=C bond do not takes place. Treatment of 2-9 with CO (3 atm) promote that the coordination mode of the carboxylate ligand changes from (kappa O-2,O-OOC-R) to (kappa O-1-OOC-R) and yielding new carbonyl derivatives [(NbCp'(2))(2)(mu-kappa O-1-OOC-CH2-CH2-COO-kappa O-1) (CO)(2)] (10); and [NbCp'(2)(OOCR-kappa O-1) (CO)] (R = CH2-CH2-COOMe (11), trans-CH = CHPh (12), trans-CMe = CHPh (13), 1-cyclohexenyl (14), CH = CMe2 (15), cis-CMe = CHMe (16) and R = trans-CH] CH-Et) (17)). Reaction of 2 with O-2 afford a new diperoxo compound [{NbCp'(2)(O-2-kappa O-2,O)}(2) (mu – kappa O-1-OOC-CH2-CH2-COO-kappa O-1)] (19), through a monoperoxo derivative [NbCp'(2)(O-2-kappa O-2,O) (mu-kappa O-1-OOC-CH2-CH2-COO-kappa O-2,O) NbCp'(2)] (18). Particle-stabilized emulsion systems have been developed to address the problematic properties of conventional surfactants. However, the nature and properties of the fine particles used in such systems remain a critical issue for stability enhancement. Herein, we describe a thermoswitchable oil-in-water (O/W) particle-stabilized emulsion that exhibits improved stability due to the addition of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) modified with poly[2-isopropoxy-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane] (PIPP), which exhibits relatively good biocompatibility and biodegradability. Various parameters, such as surface activity, concentration of particles, polarity of solvents, and temperatures, on the formation of emulsions with CNCs grafted with PIPP (CNC-g-PIPP) were investigated. Results showed that the surface activity of CNC-g-PIPP was significantly improved compared with the unmodified material. Heptane-in-water particle-stabilized emulsions with CNC-g-PIPP were stably formed, and the effect of temperature on the stability of the emulsions was characterized. CNC-g-PIPP exhibited function as an effective particulate emulsifier at 4 degrees C because of the strong adsorption at the oil-water interface. However, the emulsions rapidly disintegrated at 45 degrees C, which is above the low critical solution temperature of PIPP on CNC, as the hydrophobized CNC-g-PIPP desorbed from the oil-water interface. Based on these findings, a thermally induced reversible emulsification/demulsification was presented. The resulting switchable particle-stabilized emulsion based on CNC-g-PIPP shows promise for the ability to control the stability of an emulsion in response to temperature, which is attractive for use in biological applications.

In the present work, a green synthesis of Metal Oxide nanoparticles was demonstrated using the freshly prepared aqueous extract of the immature fruit of Cocos nucifera and the MO nanoparticles were characterized by the analytical techniques such as UV vis, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM and EDAX. Characterization techniques confirmed that the biomolecules involved in the formation of nanoparticles and also they stabilized the nanoparticles. The synthesized MO nanoparticles were used as catalysts for the reduction of aromatic aldehydes. The reduction was done at mild reaction conditions using ammonium formate as a green hydrogen donor and the corresponding alcohols were obtained in 2-24 h with excellent yields. The reduction reaction was optimized using various solvents, loading of catalyst and at different temperatures.

The effects of different paprikas on the sensory properties and the physicochemical properties of spiced beef were studied. Headspace solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were used to identify the flavor substances in the samples. The results showed that the protein and fat content of the samples with paprika were higher compared to the blank group, which were 24.10-25.60 g/100 g and 3.40-3.70 g/100g, respectively. The scores of flavor and color in the blank group were 6.50 and 6.56, respectively, which were lower than the paprikas treatment group. Among the five paprika treatment groups, the color and taste scores of the samples treated with qixing paprika were higher, which were 8.00 and 8.07, respectively. A total of 145 volatile flavor substances were detected, compared with the control group, there were more volatile flavor substances in the paprika additive groups, indicated that paprika additive could enrich the flavor of spiced beef. Practical applications Paprika not only has a unique flavor, but also has good antioxidant properties. Spiced beef is popular among consumers. However, the surface color of the product is easy to change due to oxidation, which affects the color of the product, resulting in a decline in product sales and economic losses to the enterprise. In addition, the protein and fat of the product will be lost due to oxidation during processing. Therefore, the effects of different paprika on the color, nutritional value, and volatile flavors of spiced beef were studied. The purpose was to slow down the oxidation of products, improve the color of products, retain the nutritional value, and reduce the loss of enterprises by adding different capsicum. In addition, the volatile flavor of products will directly affect the sensory evaluation of consumers, so it is very important to understand the influence of pepper on volatile flavor compounds and consumption preference for volatile components.

One-pot Julia olefination using ribofuranosyl sulfones is described. The alpha-anomers of the ribofuranosyl sulfones were synthesized with complete alpha-selectivity via the glycosylation of heteroarylthiols using ribofuranosyl iodides as glycosyl donors and the subsequent oxidation of the resulting heteroaryl 1-thioribofuranosides with magnesium monoperphthalate (MMPP). The Julia olefination of the alpha-ribofuranosyl sulfones with aldehydes proceeded smoothly in one pot to afford the thermodynamically less stable (E)-exo-glycals with modest-to-excellent stereoselectivity (up to E/Z = 94:6) under the optimized conditions. The E selectivity was especially high for aromatic aldehydes. In contrast, the (Z)-exo-glycal was obtained as the main product with low stereoselectivity when the corresponding beta-ribofuranosyl sulfone was used (E/Z = 41:59). The remarkable impact of the anomeric configuration of the ribofuranosyl sulfones on the stereoselectivity of the Julia olefination has been rationalized using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The protected ribose moiety of the resulting exo-glycals induced completely a-selective cyclopropanation on the exocyclic carbon-carbon double bond via the Simmons-Smith-Furukawa reaction. The 2-cyanoethyl group was found to be useful for the protection of the exo-glycals, as it could be removed without affecting the exocyclic C=C bond.

A series of bis(phosphinite) (POCOP) pincer ligated nickel complexes, [2,6-(tBu(2)PO)(2)C6H3]NiX (X = SH, 1; SCH2Ph, 2; SPh, 3; NCS, 4; N-3, 5), were used to catalyse the hydrosilylation of aldehydes. It was found that both complexes 1 and 2 are active in catalysing the hydrosilylation of aldehydes with phenylsilane and complex 1 is comparatively more active. The expected alcohols were isolated in good to excellent yields after basic hydrolysis of the resultant hydrosilylation products. However, no reaction was observed when complex 3 or 4 or 5 was used as the catalyst. The results are consistent with complexes 1 and 2 serving as catalyst precursors, which generate the corresponding nickel hydride complex [2,6-(tBu(2)PO)(2)C6H3]NiH in situ, and the nickel hydride complex is the active species that catalyses this hydrosilylation process. The in situ generation of the nickel hydride species was supported by both experimental results and DFT calculation.

The purpose of this study is to define an effective synthesis for spinel-type zinc chromite (ZnCr2O4) nanoparticles by a simple microwave combustion method. The synthesized material was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and from optical properties. A magnetic property for the material was examined through the vibrating sample magnetism. The distribution of the external magnetic lines of force and the self-generated magnetic field of ferromagnetic materials was taken into account in the presence of an external magnetic field. Zinc chromite showed good performances in catalytic oxidation, and the role of particle size and shape is highlighted.

p-Quinone methide (QM) is formed as an intermediate during lignin biosynthesis. The aromatization of the QM by the attack of a nucleophile at the a-position of its side chain generates a phenolic hydroxy group in a growing polymer and creates stereoisomeric forms in the side chain. A series of beta-O-4-aryl ether QMs was reacted with water at 25 degrees C to replicate the formation of p-hydro)ryphenyl (H) and guaiacyl (C) beta-O-4 structures in plant cell walls. Water addition occurred in 3-methoxy-substituted QMs (G-type QMs) with half-lives (t(1/2)) between 13 and 15 min, at pH 7, in 50% water solution (dioxane water, 1:1). The rate increased as the water concentration increased to 99% (t(1/2), 1.2-1.4 min). Similar solvent effects were observed for more reactive nonsubstituted QMs (H-type QMs with t(1/2) of <1 min). Consequently, t(1/2) of the H-type QMs was shorter than that of the G-type QMs under every solvent condition. Upon increasing the water concentration, the variation in the erythro/threo ratios of the four dimeric beta-O-4 products increased. Interestingly, the effect of pH on the stereopreference, which was observed in 50% water solution, was small and became imperceptible as the water concentration increased to 99%, suggesting that the effect of the solvent, as well as the effect of the pH, plays an important role in understanding the reaction conditions in cell walls during lignin biosynthesis. The threo isomer was preferentially formed in the four dimeric beta-O-4 structures, which is inconsistent with the structural features of compression wood lignin rich in H-units. However, the erythro-selective formation was attained in an H-type QM at every pH studied (pH 3.5-7) by introducing a biphenyl structure into the beta-etherified ring moiety.
