Fe3O4-PVDF membranes were prepared by blending of magnetic Fe3O4 powders with polyvinylidene fluoride to investigate whether those were usable or not in catalytic membrane reactors. Filtration performances and catalytic activity of membranes in microwave conditions were measured in separate processes. Composite Fe3O4-PVDF membranes were characterized by TG-DTA, FTIR, XRD, SEM and contact angle techniques. Disappearing of alpha-phases at PVDF was observed with increasing amount of additives from XRD diffraction patterns. Decomposition of polymer fastened due to catalytic effect of Fe3O4. Finger-like structures and large number of small pores were observed at the SEM images. Those provided effective transportation of substrate among the active sites of catalyst. At the experiments conducted in batch reactor, 51%, 77%, 66% and 63% benzyl alcohol conversion were recorded for 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% Fe3O4-PVDF composite pieces respectively. Catalyst were separated magnetically and reused several times. On the other hand Fe3O4 blended PVDF membranes provided improved flux and BSA rejection compared with performance of bare PVDF membrane: 41.6% BSA rejection was obtained with 4% Fe3O4-PVDF whereas it was only 6.7% for PVDF. Fe3O4-PVDF composites performed high activity for the benzyl alcohol oxidation in batch reactor and also better filtration at filtration cell. These results promise to obtain practical and low cost membrane material for catalytic reactors usable in microwave support to get fast results. In search of potent anti-inflammatory agents, twenty-four chalcone derivatives including seven new compounds (13 – 17, 21 and 23) containing pyrrole moiety were designed, synthesized, and assessed for their nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E-2 (PGE(2)) suppression ability on IFN-gamma/LPS-induced RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Results showed that none of the synthesized compounds were PAINS-associated molecules, with 3-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl) prop-2-en-1-one (compound 16) exhibiting remarkable inhibition activity towards PGE(2) and NO production with IC50 values of 0.5 +/- 1.5 mu M and 12.1 +/- 1.5 mu M, respectively. Physicochemical and ADMET studies showed that majority of the compounds obey to Lipinski’s rule of five (RO5) having high blood brain barrier (BBB) penetration, human intestinal absorption (HIA), P- glycoprotein (PgP) inhibition and plasma binding protein (PPB) inhibition. The obtained atomic coordinates for the single-crystal XRD of 16 were then applied in a molecular docking simulation, and compound 16 was found to participate in a number of important binding interactions in the binding sites of ERK and mPGES-1. Based on these results, we have observed the potential of compound 16 as a new hit anti-inflammatory agent, and these findings could serve as a basis for further studies on its mechanism of action.

Industrial-scale synthesis of eldecalcitol is described. AA highly diastereoselective epoxidation of p-methoxybenzyl (PMB) protected dienol at room temperature provides the key epoxide intermediate with a secondary hydroxyl group, which is alkylated with a triflate to set up all of the subunits at the C-1, C-2, and C-3 positions of the A-ring fragment. Selective protecting group manipulation followed by palladium-catalyzed cyclization then provides the A-ring synthon. The C/D-ring fragment is obtained by (1) direct C-H hydroxylation of Grundman’s ketone using in situ prepared trifluoropropanone dioxirane and (2) protection. Finally, the coupling of the A-ring with the C/D-ring fragment, global deprotection, and recrystallization provide the highly crystalline eldecalcitol.

In this study, we present a versatile and easy procedure for modifying a cobalt ferrite nanoparticle step by step. A new nanocatalyst was prepared via Cu(II)immobilized onto CoFe2O4@HT@Imine. The catalyst was fully characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analyses. The current procedure as a green protocol offers benefits including a simple operational method, an excellent yield of products, mild reaction conditions, minimum chemical wastes, and short reaction times. Without any significant reduction in the catalytic performance, up to five recyclability cycles of the catalyst were obtained. The optimization results suggest that the best condition in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol derivatives is 0.003 g of the CoFe2O4@HT@Imine-Cu(II)catalyst, TEMPO, at 70 degrees C under solvent-free condition and air.

We report a synthetic route toward a family of functional COS/H2S-releasing N-substituted N-thiocarboxyanhydrides (NTAs) with functionalities to accommodate popular conjugation reactions, including olefin cross metathesis, thiol-ene, and copper-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition. The N-substituted NTAs were attached to small molecules, polymers, and a protein to synthesize novel H2S donors convergently. All conjugates showed sustained H2S release kinetics.

Novel and efficient method for the synthesis of a series of beta,gamma-unsaturated-alpha-ketoesters under mild conditions was developed. This one-step protocol was achieved by the reaction of electron-rich aromatic aldehydes and pyruvates in the presence of 10 mol% of molecular iodine in solvent-free condition at 80 degrees C temperature. A wide variety of substrates bearing electron releasing groups on aromatic ring were well tolerated and delivered corresponding beta,gamma-unsaturated-alpha-ketoesters in moderate to good yields. These beta,gamma-unsaturated-alpha-ketoesters have been further utilized in the synthesis of 4,5-dihydropyrazole derivatives. [GRAPHICS] .

Nitrogen (N)-doped nanocarbons (NDN) as metal-free catalysts have elicited considerable attention toward selective oxidation of alcohols with easily oxidizable groups to aldehydes in the past few years. However, finding a new NDN catalytic material that can meet the requirement of the feasibility on the aerobic catalytics for other complicated alcohols is a big challenge. The real active sites and the corresponding mechanisms on NDN are still unambiguous because of inevitable coexistence of diverse edge sites and N species based on recently reported doping methods. Here, four NDN catalysts with enriched pyridinic N species and without any graphitic N species are simply fabricated via a chemical-vapor-deposition-like method. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectra suggest that the dominating N species on NDN are pyridinic N. It is demonstrated that NDN catalysts perform impressive reactivity for aerobic oxidation of complicated alcohols at an atmospheric pressure. Eleven kinds of aromatic molecules with single N species and tunable pi conjugation systems are used as model catalysts to experimentally identify the actual role of each N species at a real molecular level. It is suggested that pyridinic N species play an unexpected role in catalytic reactions. Neighboring carbon atoms in pyridinic N species are responsible for facilitating the rate-determining step process clarified by kinetic isotope effects, in situ nuclear magnetic resonance, in situ attenuated total reflectance infrared, and theoretical calculation. Moreover, NDN catalysts exhibit a good catalytic feasibility on the synthesis of important natural products (e.g., intermediates of vitamin E and K3) from phenol oxidation.

Introduction: The N-heterocyclic compounds have been extensively studied in pharmaceutical industries. Furthermore, syntheses of such compounds employing organo-catalyst have been associated with sustainable technology. Methods: The synthesis of new, stable ionic liquids and their catalytic applications in one-pot multicomponent Biginelli reaction is presented. The method provides broad substrate scope, yielding the corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones and 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-thiones, in good to excellent yields, respectively. Results and Conclusion: The developed reactions are associated with certain advantages, short reaction time and sustainable conditions. The protocol has advantages eco-friendly procedure, recovery and reusability of catalyst, which showed consistent activity.

Catalyst-free photoinduced processes in aqueous medium represent significant advancement toward development of green and sustainable pathways in organic synthesis. tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) is a widely used oxidant in organic reactions, where the decomposition of TBHP into its radicals by metal catalysts or other reagents is a key factor for efficient catalytic outcome. Herein, we report a simple and environmentally friendly visible light-promoted synthetic pathway for the synthesis of N-heterocyclic moieties, such as quinazolinones and quinoxalines, in the presence of TBHP as an oxidizing agent in aqueous medium that requires no catalysts/photocatalysts. The enhanced rate of decomposition to generate free radicals from TBHP upon visible light irradiation is the driving force for the domino reaction.
