Two magnetic nano catalysts of nickel and copper, Fe3O4@SiO2@DOP-BenPyr-M(II), (M=Ni and Cu) have been synthesized. These catalysts were applied as recoverable, efficient and new heterogeneous catalysts for the high yielding and room temperature one-pot procedure of selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and oxidative coupling of thiols to disulfides. In addition, the catalytic activity of Fe3O4@SiO2@DOP-BenPyr-Ni(II) was investigated as heterogeneous nanocatalyst for synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones, 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles and polyhydroquinolines. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by FT-IR, TGA, XRD, VSM, EDX, ICP and SEM techniques. These catalysts were recovered by an external magnet and reused several times without significant loss of catalytic efficiency. [GRAPHICS] .

The new complex [Zn(im)(4)](NO3)(2) (1) was synthesized and crystallographically characterized. In the solid state, 1 is built up by [Zn(C3H4N2)](2+) cations and NO3- anions interlinked by N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds which give rise to the formation of a 3D network. Complex 1 and [CdNa2(mu-L-2)](n)center dot 6.34H(2)O (2), (L=2-(2-(4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohexylidene) hydrazinyl)terephthalate) were used as catalysts for the Henry reaction, and high yields were obtained under optimum conditions. Both 1 and 2 act as very efficient catalysts for the Henry reaction and convert nitroethane and aldehydes to beta-nitroalcohols in yields of up to 89%. The threo/erythro diastereoselectivity depends on the choice of catalyst and also the selection of the reaction substrate, reaching values up to 89:11. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconducting inorganic nanoparticles, tiny molecules of 2-10 nm sizes to strength the quantum confinements of electrons. The QDs are good enough to emit light onto electrons for exciting and returning to the ground state. Here, CdSe/ZnS core/shell QDs have been prepared and applied for electrochemical sensor development in this approach. Flat glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was coated with CdSe/ZnS QDs as very thin uniform layer to result of the selective and efficient sensor of 3-CP (3-chlorophenol). The significant analytical parameters were calculated from the calibration plot such as sensitivity (3.6392 mu A mu M-1 cm(-2)) and detection limit (26.09 +/- 1.30 pM) with CdSe/ZnS/GCE sensor probe by electrochemical approach. The calibration curve was fitted with the regression co-efficient r(2) = 0.9906 in the range of 0.1 nM similar to 0.1 mM concentration, which denoted as linear dynamic range (LDR). Besides these, it was performed the reproducibility in short response time and successfully validated the fabricated sensor for 3-CP in the real environmental and extracted samples. It is introduced as a noble route to detect the environmental phenolic contaminants using CdSe/ZnS QDs modified sensor by electrochemical method for the safety of healthcare and environmental fields at broad scales.

We report herein the synthesis of a polymeric photosensitizer and its application in aerobic photooxidative hydroxylation of boronic acids. The polymeric photosensitizer was synthesized by the condensation of anthraquinone-2-carbonyl chloride (AQ-2-COCl) with poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA). The photo-oxidative hydroxylation of boronic acids using anthraquinone-containing-poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (AQ-PHEMA) was then explored and shown to exhibit high efficiency and broad scope. Moreover, AQ-PHEMA could be easily recovered and reused for more than 20 times without significant loss of the catalytic activity.

In this work, the new trinuclear manganese catalyst defined as Fe3O4@NFC@NNSM-Mn(iii) was successfully manufactured and fully characterized by different techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX, VSM, and ICP analysis. There have been reports of the use of magnetic catalysts for the synthesis of xanthine derivatives. The critical potential interest in the present method include short reaction time, high yields, recyclability of the catalyst, easy workup, and the ability to sustain a variety of functional groups, which give economical as well as ecological rewards. Also, the synthesized catalyst was used as a recyclable trinuclear catalyst in alcohol oxidation reactions at 40 degrees C. The magnetic catalyst activity of Fe3O4@NFC@NNSM-Mn(iii) could be attributed to the synergistic effects of the catalyst Fe3O4@NFC@NNS-Mn(iii) with melamine. Employing a sustainable and safe low temperature, using an eco-friendly solvent, no need to use any additive, and long-term stability and magnetic recyclability of the catalyst for at least six successive runs are the advantages of the current protocol towards green chemistry. This protocol is a benign, environmentally friendly method for heterocycle synthesis.

Here, the synthesis of MgO nanopowders via a simple precipitation method is defined. The morphology, phase identification, particle size distribution and specific surface area of the sample was investigated by FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, DLS, and BET techniques. The structural parameters were determined through XRD pattern. The sample crystallized in a pure cubic phase with the average crystallite size of 55 nm. The micro-strain (epsilon) and dislocation density (delta) of the sample were also calculated to be 0.1153 and 3.306 x 10(-4), respectively. The catalyst has a specific surface area and of 26.7 m(2)g(-1). The catalytic activity of MgO nanopowders was studied in the three-component condensation of aldehydes, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and malononitrile in aqueous media. A range of aromatic aldehydes undergoes the reaction to produce a series of pyrano[3,2-c]chromen derivatives in good yields.

In our continuing efforts to develop therapeutically active coumarin-based compounds, a series of new C4-C4 ‘ biscoumarin-pyrimidine conjugates (1a-l) was synthesizedviaS(N)2 reaction of substituted 4-bromomethyl coumarin with thymine. All compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques, that is, attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR), CHN elemental analysis, and(1)H and(13)C NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance). In addition, the structure of compound1d(1,3-bis[(7-chloro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)methyl]-5-methylpyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione) was established through X-ray crystallography. Compounds1a-lwere screened for in vitro anticancer activity against C6 rat glioma cells. Among the screened compounds, 1,3-bis[(6-chloro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)methyl]-5-methylpyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (1c) was identified as the best antiproliferative candidate, exhibiting an IC(50)value of 4.85 mu M. All the compounds (1a-l) were found to be nontoxic toward healthy human embryonic kidney cells (HEK293), indicating their selective nature. In addition, the most active compound (1c) displayed strong binding interactions with the drug carrier protein, human serum albumin, and exhibited good solution stability at biological pH conditions. Fluorescence, UV-visible spectrophotometry and molecular modeling methodologies were employed for studying the interaction mechanism of compound1cwith protein.

Chalcones are open-chain flavonoids which contains two aromatic rings are joined by 3-carbons alpha-, beta-unsaturated carbonyl chain. The, beta-unsaturated ketonic group which is liable for the antimicrobial activity of the chalcone is additionally of vast use in further chemical modification into a variety of heterocyclic compounds. A new series of chalcone derivatives was synthesized and characterized by spectral analysis (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS and elemental analysis) and evaluated for its in vitro antimicrobial activity against bacterial (Gram negative and Gram positive) and fungal strains using tube dilution method. The antimicrobial screening results revealed that some compounds of the series 1 (MICpa = 1.16 mu M), 3 (MICbs = 1.82 mu M), 6 (MICan = 2.09 mu M), 8 (MICec and se = 0.94 and 1.88 mu M) and 17 (MICsa and ca = 0.91 and 1.81 mu M) showed the most promising antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive as well as Gram-negative bacterial and fungal strains, and comparable to the standard drugs used as positive control (cefadroxil and fluconazole).

The non-linear optical technology is gaining huge attention to the thermal and mechanical stability, electrical property, and modulate signal flexibility that could be used in uprising optoelectronics devices based on powerful laser technologies such as all optical switches, lightemitting diodes, data storage and optical communication systems. In this paper, selected three phenanthrolines derivatives [2-phenyl-1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole (1), 2-(4-nitrophenyl)1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole(2),2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole (3)] were synthesized and characterized using UV, FT-IR and H-1 NMR. Cubic nonlinear optical properties susceptibility (chi(<3>)(THG)) were analyzed and evaluated using the third harmonic generation technique on thin films at 1064 nm. The investigation study is completed by a theoretical calculation in which the different quantum chemical parameters like frontier molecular orbital analysis, energy gap, dipole moment, average polarizability, and first second hyperpolarizability were analyzed using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The non-linear optical behavior of the selected three phenanthrolines derivatives is confirmed through the obtained high THG efficiency. Moreover, a significant correlation between the molecular structures and the optoelectronic properties is demonstrated.
