Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used to obtain a wide range of materials for various purposes. High demand of PVC is explained by possibility to modify polyvinyl chloride and produce broad range of materials with improved properties as well as to have cost efficient ratio: productivity, available raw materials, saving of natural resources. However, under normal temperature polyvinyl chloride is brittle and inelastic, that limits the fields of PVC application. The production of basic PVC compositions is impossible without plasticizers – low-molecular compounds that allow direct regulating physical and mechanical properties of polymer. Production of plasticizers became one of the most important branch of petrochemical industry. Recently, however, the range and production of plasticizers have drastically decreased due to the increased cost, which reduced the competitiveness of plasticized PVC products. Therefore, the expansion of plasticizer variety for PVC is a strategic task of great practical significance. The present work describes synthesis methods of esters on the basis of oxyalkylated alcohols suggested as polyvinyl chloride plasticizers. Physico-chemical properties of synthesized compounds were studied. Conditions for their production with maximum outcome were selected. The results of experiments in which obtained compounds were tested as additives in the plasticization of PVC showed that the obtained samples of cable plastic, adhesive PVC tapes and multi-layered polyvinyl chloride linoleum satisfy all the technical requirements by the main indicators: cable plastic compound – GOST 5960-72 with amendment 1-9; a PVC adhesive tape – Technical Conditions – 2245-001-00203312-2003; multilayered linoleum – GOST 7251-77. According to the experimental results, phthalates of oxyalkylated alcohols possess rather high efficiency as plasticizers of polyvinyl chloride and are recommended for use in the above-mentioned industrial PVC recipes.

Although the number of reported corrosion inhibitors has increased steeply in recent years, global corrosion damages raised the need for highly effective, new promising compounds for corrosion protection of metals and their alloys. Herein, chemical and electrochemical testing methods like weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) measurements were applied to evaluate the inhibition performance and adsorption mechanism of (Z)-4-((4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione (2C) against carbon steel (CS) corrosion 1.0 M HCl. Together, electrochemical results and morphological evidence from scanning electron microscope (SEM) demonstrated that, in the presence of 2C, the inhibition efficiency reaches a maximum of 86% at 10(-3), forming a compact protective layer on CS surface. On the other hand, corrosion inhibition decreases a little with the rise of the temperature. The investigated compound was classified as a mixed class inhibitor, affecting both anodic and cathodic reactions, while its adsorption followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum chemical calculations were used to give further insights into the inhibiting action of 2C and to explain its mechanism of action. Hydrothermal treatment of gadolinium nitrate and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC) afforded a new metal-organic framework compound, {[Gd-4(NDC)(6)(H2O)(6)]center dot 2H(2)O}n(1). Compound 1 has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, therrmogravimetric analysis (TGA) and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. It is crystallized in the monoclinic system with the P2(1)/n space group. Four crystallographically distinct Gd (III) centres are interconnected with each other through bridged carboxylato oxygen atoms and water molecules to form tetranuclear secondary building units, which are further connected through the carboxylato ligand and the network propagates along the crystallographic ac plane to form a 2D structure. Subsequent reinforcement from the remaining carboxylato oxygen atoms gives rise to a robust 3D framework structure. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrates that compound 1 is fairly stable after dehydration under a nitrogen atmosphere. Notably, compound 1 is capable of catalyzing the O-arylation reaction efficiently between substituted phenols and bromoarene under heterogeneous conditions at 80 degrees C to afford unsymmetrical diarylethers. The B3NO2 six-membered heterocycle (1,3-dioxa-5-aza-2,4,6-triborinane = DATB), comprising three different non-carbon period 2 elements, has been recently demonstrated to be a powerful catalyst for dehydrative condensation of carboxylic acids and amines. The identification of a soluble Pym-DATB derivative allowed for the investigation of the dynamic nature of the B3NO2 ring system, revealing differential ring-closing and -opening behaviors depending on the medium. Readily accessible Pym-DATBs proved their utility as efficient catalysts for dehydrative amidation with broad substrate scope and functional-group tolerance, offering a general and practical catalytic alternative to reagent-driven amidation.

A series of novel pteridinone derivatives possessing a hydrazone moiety were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their biological activity. Most of the synthesized compounds demonstrated moderate to excellent activity against A549, HCT116 and PC-3 cancer cell lines. In particular, compound L-19 exhibited the most potent antiproliferative effects on three cell lines with IC50 values of 3.23 mu M, 4.36 mu M and 8.20 mu M, respectively. In kinase assays, the compound L-19 also showed potent inhibition activity toward PLK1 with % inhibition values of 75.1. Further mechanism studies revealed that compound L-19 significantly inhibited proliferation of HCT-116 cell lines, induced a great decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential resulting in apoptosis of cancer cells, inhibited the migration of tumor cells, and arrested G1 phase of HCT116 cells.

The development of carbonaceous materials as metal-free catalysts integrating different types of catalysis in a single system represents a significant advance in cascade/tandem organic synthesis. Zero-dimensional carbon dots with tuneable optical properties and easily modifiable surface functionalities can be harnessed as a carbocatalyst for merging photooxidation and acid-catalyzed reactions in one pot. Herein, we explore carbon dots decorated with hydrogen sulfate groups as a photocatalyst for the dehydrogenative cross-coupling of xanthenes with ketones, arenes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds that showed high efficiency and selectivity under visible-light irradiation. The sulphated carbon dots demonstrate dual catalytic properties, wherein they induced the rapid photooxidation of xanthenes in the presence of molecular oxygen to form a hydroperoxy intermediate followed by coupling of nucleophiles catalysed by the acidic surface functional groups. The methodology represents an operationally simple pathway for the generation of C-C coupling products in a short reaction time with wide substrate scopes under mild conditions. The catalyst is easily separable and can be reused over multiple cycles with good efficiency.

Applications of TEMPO(.)catalysis for the development of redox-neutral transformations are rare. Reported here is the first TEMPO.-catalyzed, redox-neutral C-H di- and trifluoromethoxylation of (hetero)arenes. The reaction exhibits a broad substrate scope, has high functional-group tolerance, and can be employed for the late-stage functionalization of complex druglike molecules. Kinetic measurements, isolation and resubjection of catalytic intermediates, UV/Vis studies, and DFT calculations support the proposed oxidative TEMPO./TEMPO(+)redox catalytic cycle. Mechanistic studies also suggest that Li(2)CO(3)plays an important role in preventing catalyst deactivation. These findings will provide new insights into the design and development of novel reactions through redox-neutral TEMPO(.)catalysis.

Exploring highly efficient catalyst is the key for integration of photocatalysis and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Herein, WC/Bi2WO6 nanocomposites were judiciously constructed by anchoring the non-noble metal plasmonic WC nanocrystals onto the surface of ultrathin Bi2WO6 nanosheets to activate PMS for efficient photodegradation of bisphenol A (BPA). The prepared WC/Bi2WO6 nanocomposites possess abundant heterojunction interface, resulting in excellent photoabsorption capability, interfacial charge transfer dynamics, and charge carrier concentration. As expected, WC/Bi2WO6 nanocomposites exhibit superior catalytic activity and stability in PMS activation toward BPA degradation with removal efficiency of 97.4%, which is higher than that of Bi2WO6. The content of WC nanocrystals are critical to tune the catalytic activity of the nanocomposites. The intermediates and degradation pathways were determined through LC-MS/MS analysis. Finally, the reaction mechanism was systematically elucidated based on the active species detection, charge transfer dynamics, and band structures. The desirable photocatalytic performances can be ascribed to the constructional heterojunction between the WC nanocrystals and Bi2WO6 nanosheets, which can efficiently enhance the photoabsorption capability, heighten the interfacial charge transfer ability, and ameliorate the charge carrier concentration. This study provides some insights to construct highly efficient photocatalyst modification with non-noble metal based plasmonic materials for environmental remediation.

Microdroplet chemistry is attracting increasing attention for accelerated reactions at the solution-air interface. We report herein a voltage-controlled interfacial microreactor that enables acceleration of electrochemical reactions which are not observed in bulk or conventional electrochemical cells. The microreactor is formed at the interface of the Taylor cone in an electrospray emitter with a large orifice, thus allowing continuous contact of the electrode and the reactants at/near the interface. As a proof-of-concept, electrooxidative C-H/N-H coupling and electrooxidation of benzyl alcohol were shown to be accelerated by more than an order of magnitude as compared to the corresponding bulk reactions. The new electrochemical microreactor has unique features that allow i) voltage-controlled acceleration of electrochemical reactions by voltage-dependent formation of the interfacial microreactor; ii) reversible electrochemical derivatization; and iii) in situ mechanistic study and capture of key radical intermediates when coupled with mass spectrometry.
