A novel type of multicomponent nanocomposite of LDH@PDA@PNIPAM@Pd/carbon dots (CDs) was successfully constructed for highly efficient heterogeneous catalytic reduction from two-dimensional layer double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheet functionalized with thermo-responsive PNIPAM polymer brushes based on the mussel-inspired chemistry. CDs were used as a reductant and stabilizer by in situ loading metal Pd onto LDH@PDA@PNIPAM. Compared with LDH@PDA@PNIPAM@Pd catalyst without CDs modification, the designed LDH@PDA@PNIPAM@Pd/CDs nanohybrid catalyst had better catalytic reduction ability for various dyes and nitrophenol thanks to the synergistic catalytic effect between metal active center and CDs, LDH and their high dispersion stability. Especially, a good catalytic reduction activity was demonstrated for methylene blue (MB) with a high TOF (545.2 min(-1)). Furthermore, the nanohybrid presented interesting thermo-responsive catalytic property due to the existence of PNIPAM polymer chains. In addition, the prepared catalyst also exhibited outstanding catalytic property for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction. Our study provides a new way for the composite preparation of organic-inorganic hybrid materials by polymer and inorganic materials, and shows great potential in the field of catalytic applications.

A series of twenty-one 3,4-dihydropyrimidine derivatives bearing the heterocyclic 1,3-benzodioxole at position 4 in addition to different substituents at positions 2, 3 and 5 were designed and synthesized as monastrol analogs. The novel synthesized compounds were screened for their cytotoxic activity towards 60 cancer cell lines according to NCI (USA) protocol. Compounds 10b and 15 showed the best antitumor activity against most cell lines. Compound 15 was subsequently tested in 5-doses mode and displayed high selectivity towards CNS, prostate and leukemia subpanel with selectivity ratios of 22.30, 15.38 and 12.56, respectively at GI(50) level. The IC50 of compounds 9d, 10b, 12, 15 and 16 against kinesin enzyme were 3.86 +/- 0.12, 10.70 +/- 0.35, 3.95 +/- 0.12, 4.36 +/- 0.14, and 14.07 +/- 0.45 mu M respectively, while the prototype compound, monastrol, reported IC50 value of 20 +/- 0.42 mu M. The safest compound among test compounds against normal cell line (HEK 293) is 10b with IC50 value of 62.02 +/- 2.42 mu M/ml in comparison to doxorubicin (IC50 = 11.34 +/- 0.44 mu M/ml). Cell cycle analysis of SNB-75 cells treated with compound 15 showed cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase. Further, the assay of levels of active caspase-3 and caspase-9 was investigated. In this study, the carrier g-C3N4 was prepared by melamine, and the Ag-Pd/g-C3N4 catalyst was synthesized by the NaBH4 reduction method. Different characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-vis DRS, XPS, photoluminescence spectra (PL) and BET, were employed to investigate the morphology and optical properties of the as-prepared samples. The Ag-Pd/g-C3N4 catalyst was used for the synthesis of imine from a benzyl alcohol and aniline. The results show that when the total loading of Ag and Pd is 2 wt%, and the mass ratio of Ag and Pd is 1:1, the activity of the catalyst is the highest (The highest conversion of aniline is 86.7% and the product selectivity is > 99%.). The reaction is optimized by changing the type of solvent, the type and amount of base, the type of catalyst, and the amount of reactants. The optimal reaction conditions are 6 ml of n-hexane, 1.4 mmol of Cs2CO3, 50 mg of the Ag-Pd/g-C3N4 (2 wt%, 1:1), and 2:1 mol ratio of benzyl alcohol and aniline. Under optimal reaction conditions, alcohol derivatives and amine derivatives were investigated to determine the suitable range of the catalyst for alcohols and amines. Then, the effects of different light intensities and wavelengths on the reaction were explored. Additionally, the catalyst’s recycling ability was tested, and it was found to be relatively stable. The effect of reactive groups on the mechanism shows that the reaction is mainly achieved by the synergy between h(+), e(-) and center dot O-2(-).

The first palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of aryl/heteroaryl and alkenyl mesylates and tosylates with aryl titanium as the multi-functional reagent is reported. Using the catalyst system of Pd(OAc)(2) associated with the new NMe2-CM-Phos (L14), a broad range of electron-rich, electron-neutral, electron-deficient, and sterically hindered aryl/heteroaryl and alkenyl mesylates and tosylates are well coupled with aryl titanium reagents to give the corresponding products in good to excellent yields. Utilization of lignocellulosic biomass is increasingly important. Jasminum nudiflorum Lindl. (JNL) is a widely cultivated landscape plant in China. To evaluate the chemical components, pyrolysis characteristics as well as the potential values of JNL bark for utilization, the components were extracted using methanol, ethanol, and benzene/ethanol (2:1, v/v) and pyrolyzed from room temperature to 300 ?C, respectively. Many components were detected in the extracts and the pyrolyzates of JNL bark and their chemical properties were analyzed. The compounds identified in the extracts and the pyrolyzates of JNL bark included acids, aldehydes, alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatics, saccharides, olefins, and nitrogen-containing compounds. Some of the identified compounds, such as urs-12-en-28-al, 3-(acetyloxy)-, (3.beta.)-, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and vanillin, are widely used in the medical, energy, and food industries. The pyrolysis of JNL bark using thermogravimetric (TG) analyzer showed the highest reaction rate occurred at between 200 and 300 ?C where the maximum mass loss was observed. According to the Coats-Redfern method, the calculated apparent activation energy (E) and pre-exponential factor (A) of the pyrolysis process of JNL bark were 52.04 kJ mol- 1 and 3.14 ? 105 min-1, respectively. This research provides information on the components and pyrolysis characteristics of JNL bark, which shows great potential for application in medical, food, and chemical industries.

The conversion of silyloxyarenes to boronic acid pinacol esters via nickel catalysis is described. In contrast to other borylation protocols of inert C-O bonds, the method is competent in activating the carbon-oxygen bond of silyloxyarenes in isolated aromatic systems lacking a directing group. The aims of this study were to produce cold-pressed oils from watermelon seeds, which were previously treated with seed boiling and roasting, and to characterize the oils and press cakes. The watermelon seeds were found as rich sources of protein, oil, and minerals. Seed boiling pretreatment resulted in a higher oil recovery (51.31%) than seed preroasting (44.21%). Seed pretreatments did not cause any difference in the fatty acid (FA), sterol, and tocopherol compositions. Linoleic acid (LNA) was the major FA (54.57 and 54.62%) with higher contents of total unsaturated (74.41 and 75.52%) FA. beta-Sitosterol (202.79 mg/100 g oil and 202.90 mg/100 g oil) and gamma-tocopherol (361.45 mg kg(-1) oil and 365.98 mg kg(-1) oil) were the major components. The oils started to crystallize at around 1.80 and 1.75 degrees C, and completely crystallized oils melted at around -35.66 and -35.78 degrees C, respectively. Seed boiling pretreatment reduced the quantity of the most phenolic compounds in the oil (51.54 and 22.74 mg kg(-1) total phenolics). The oxidative induction times of the oils were 11.91 and 11.49 min. In these cold-pressed oils, volatile compounds associated with roasted/nutty and vegetable/herbal aroma descriptions were predominantly detected. Sensory descriptive analysis indicated that the oils are poor in terms of different sensory terms. Consumer tests showed that these oils are acceptable for direct consumption. Hence, this raw material could be used to produce edible oils.
