Chalcone derivatives (7a-k) have been synthesized and characterized by H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, mass, and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds 7a, 7d, and 7g have been examined and it is confirmed that the most promising cytotoxicity and also cell morphology analysis exhibited good apoptotic activity against lung cancer A549 cell. The free energy binding of compound 7d exhibits – 8.96 kcal/mol with five hydrogen bonding Asn1254, Arg1253, Asp1249, and Gly1123 amino acids of ALK receptors. The LUMO of the electron density present in alpha, beta-double bond and influence the anticancer activity. The Mulliken atomic charges and MEPs are scrutinizing the ligand interaction with the amino acid binding of ALK receptors. UV-visible and photoluminescence spectra showed that the properties of chalcone derivatives have a significant effect on the visible absorption and emission maxima (531-535 nm) red shift in the emission spectra which also systematically investigated electrochemical in various solvents with increasing solvent polarity.

A general and efficient protocol to synthesize substituted olefins from carbonyl compounds via nickel catalyzed C-O activation of enolates was developed. Besides ketones, aldehydes were also suitable substrates for the presented catalytic system to produce di- or tri- substituted olefins. It is worth noting that this approach exhibited good tolerance to highly reactive tertiary alcohols, which could not survive in other reported routes for converting carbonyl compounds to olefins. This method also showed good regio- and stereo-selectivity for olefin products. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that the reaction was accomplished through nickel catalyzed C-O activation of enolates, thus offering helpful contribution to current enol chemistry.

Hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) hydrogenation has recently emerged as an indispensable method for the chemoselective reduction of unactivated alkenes. However, the hitherto reported systems basically require stoichiometric amounts of silanes and peroxides, which prevents wider applications, especially with respect to sustainability and safety concerns. Herein, we report a silane- and peroxide-free HAT hydrogenation using a combined cobalt/photoredox catalysis and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as a sole stoichiometric reactant. A cobalt salophen complex is identified as the optimal cocatalyst for this environmentally benign HAT hydrogenation in aqueous media, which exhibits high functional-group tolerance. In addition to its applicability in the late-stage hydrogenation of amino-acid derivatives and drug molecules, this method offers unique advantage in direct transformation of unprotected sugar derivatives and allows the HAT hydrogenation of unprotected C-glycoside in higher yield compared to previously reported HAT hydrogenation protocols. Coffee is among the most consumed beverages worldwide. The present study reports on the aroma composition associated with coffee seeds brewing. Aroma of authentic coffee specimens of Coffea arabica and C. robusta alongside with typical products consumed in the Middle East were analyzed using HS-SPME coupled with GC-MS. In addition, multivariate data analysis (MVA) was employed. Results revealed for 102 volatiles with a distinct aroma profile between the different brewing methods. Infusion demonstrated higher esters level, while decoction and maceration were more abundant in sesquiterpenes and terpene alcohols, respectively. Besides, heat-induced products, i.e., 4-vinyl guaiacol was identified as potential roasting index in instant coffee and roasted C. robusta brews. Blending with cardamom further masked the smoky odor of such compounds by its fragrant terpinyl acetate. This study provides the first report on the chemical sensory attributes of Middle Eastern coffee blends and further reveal for the impact of brewing, roasting on its aroma composition.

The ring opening of alpha-D-1,2-anhydrohexapyranoses with phenols proceeded smoothly in ethyl acetate (neutral conditions) in the absence of metal ion catalysts or additives to stereoselectively furnish 1,2-cis-alpha-aryl glycosides as the major product and 1,2-trans-beta-aryl glycosides as the minor product in good yields. Ce-UiO-66 MOF, namely cerium-organic framework was prepared through a fast and efficient method under ultrasonic radiation. After preparation, it was identified using some different microscopic and spectroscopic techniques such as PXRD, FT-IR, TG/DTA, BET, BJH, and FE-SEM. The catalytic activity of Ce-UiO-66 MOF was checked in aerobic oxidation of methyl arenas, alcohols and styrene derivatives in a sustainable circumstance with no additives. Moreover, its catalytic activity was surveyed influenced by a number of variables in the ultrasonic synthesis method. Some parameters such as solvent, base, temperature, amount of the catalyst and time were also tested to optimize the aerobic oxidation reaction. After the 10th run, the recycled Ce-MOF showed an acceptable efficiency, which proved its high reusability and stability under optimized conditions. Furthermore, the Ce-UiO-66 was investigated structurally by PXRD method which demonstrated the catalyst stability after the aerobic oxidation reaction.

The dimeric lindenane sesquiterpenoids are mainly isolated from the plants of Chloranthaceae family. Structurally, they have a crowded molecular scaffold decorated with more than 11 stereogenic centers. Here we report divergent syntheses of eight dimeric lindenane sesquiterpenoids, shizukaols A, C, D, I, chlorajaponilide C, multistalide B, sarcandrolide J and sarglabolide I. ZnWO4 catalysts are brilliant in the field of photocatalysis due to their excellent chemical stability and optical properties. In this work, we prepared pure ZnWO4 by a hydrothermal method, evaluated its ability to degrade toluene and elucidated the photocatalytic reaction mechanism. The results showed that ZnWO4 had excellent catalytic activity and stability. Combining the ESR spectroscopy spectra and DFT calculation results, ZnWO4 was found to adsorb a large amount of O-2 and H2O, and activate them to produce active radicals participating in the oxidation reaction of toluene. The reactions to form benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid could be carried out spontaneously based on the Gibbs free energy calculation results and in situ DRIFTS spectra, which indicated that benzaldehyde can be easily converted to benzoic acid. The ring opening reaction is more likely to be carried out on benzoic acid. The findings of this work can extend the application of ZnWO4 materials and the understanding of the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of toluene.
