A novel series of 7,8-dichlorobenzofuro[3,2-c]quinoline-6,9,10(5H)-triones was obtained regioselectively in good yields. The products were formed by the reactions of the 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-quinolinones with 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-1,2-benzoquinone in tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. Inhibition of the host RNA polyadenylating polymerases, PAPD5 and PAPD7 (PAPD5/7), with dihydroquinolizinone, a small orally available, molecule, results in a rapid and selective degradation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) RNA, and hence reduction in the amounts of viral gene products. DHQ, is a first in class investigational agent and could represent an entirely new category of HBV antivirals. PAPD5 and PAPD7 are noncanonical, cell specified, polyadenylating polymerases, also called terminal nucleotidyl transferases 4B and 4A (TENT4B/A), respectively. They are involved in the degradation of poor-quality cell transcripts, mostly noncoding RNAs and in the maturation of a sub-set of transcripts. They also appear to play a role in shielding some mRNA from degradation. The results of studies with DHQ, along with other recent findings, provide evidence that repression of the PAPD5/7 arm of the cell RNA quality control pathway, causes a profound (multifold) reduction rather than increase, in the amount of HBV pre-genomic, pre-core and HBsAg mRNA levels in tissue culture and animal models, as well. In this review we will briefly discuss the need for new HBV therapeutics and provide background about HBV transcription. The regioselectivity of hydroxyl radical addition to arenes was studied using a novel analytical method capable of trapping radicals formed after the first elementary step of reaction, without alteration of the product distributions by secondary oxidation processes. The push-pull electronic and steric effect of copper porphyrin catalysts on the cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction between the hydroxyl group of phenol substrates and C(sp(3))-H bond have been investigated. Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the use of pulmonary regurgitation volume (PRV) or indexed PRV (PRVi) with that of pulmonary regurgitation fraction (PRF) in the assessment of patients with pulmonary regurgitation (PR) undergoing cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials and Methods: CMR of 176 patients with PR were retrospectively evaluated. Their right ventricular diastolic (end-diastolic volume index [EDVi]) and systolic (end-systolic volume index) volume indexes, stroke volume, and ejection fraction were obtained from cine CMR sequences, whereas phase-contrast flow sequences were analyzed to obtain PRV, PRVi, and PRF. Patients were divided into subgroups, according to underlying pathology and according to PR severity. Correlations between PRV or PRF and RV parameters were studied through Spearman rho, both in the main group and subgroups. Follow-up examinations were analyzed, and correlations between PRV or PRF from the first CMR examination and volume data from the second were calculated. Results: Tetralogy of Fallot was the main setting of PR (98/179). Overall, EDVi strongly correlates with PRV (rho=0.592, P<0.001) than with PRF (rho=0.522, P<0.001), and end-systolic volume index strongly correlates with PRV (rho=0.454, P<0.001) and PRF (rho=0.406, P <0.001). As regards subgroup analysis, in moderate or severe PR patients, EDVi strongly correlates (P=0.043) with PRV (rho=0.499, P<0.001) than with PRF (rho=0.317, P<0.001). Follow-up EDVi correlates with PRV (rho=0.450, P=0.031), but not with PRF. Conclusions: Especially when assessing moderate to severe PR, PRV and PRVi may be better indicators of right ventricular dysfunction than PRF. Moreover, PRV may be a predictor of worsening RV dilation. Fragile cultural relics at underwater archaeological sites are difficult to preserve in situ over long time periods due to the effects of a complex and constantly changing surrounding environment. Thus, extracting the relics from water and preserving them in a controllable environment is of primary importance. In this paper, the technology of temporary reinforcement and extraction of underwater fragile relics with veratraldehyde followed by a process of secondary temporary reinforcement using polyethylene glycol (PEG) was studied. After investigating the melting temperature and permeability of PEGs with different molecular weights, we found that PEG-3000 is an excellent candidate as the secondary reinforcing agent for the extracted relics. In the laboratory, combined with veratraldehyde and polypropylene-fiber cloth as temporary underwater strengthening materials, and selected dispersed beaded jewelry and a broken three-dimensional crock as our research subject, we carried out an entire retrieval process-temporary stabilization and secondary temporary reinforcement, to systematically evaluate the technological aspects of safely excavating fragile underwater relics in the original state. After being extracted from water and subjected to secondary temporary reinforcement using PEG-3000, the beaded jewelry and broken crock retained their underwater shape and arrangement completely. The use of secondary reinforcing agent prevents the removal process of veratraldehyde and enclosed sediment from affecting the state of the relics.

A new recyclable nanocatalyst consisting of heteropoly acid grafted on ionic liquid modified LaMnO3 nanoparticles was synthesized and accomplished as an efficient catalyst in condensation reaction for the preparation of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans under solvent-free conditions. An efficient and simple method for determining vanillin, methyl vanillin and ethyl vanillin in milk and dairy products was developed using a liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) procedure coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Different extraction procedures were tested and optimised by spiking three vanillin compounds into a blank matrix in which none of any food additives were detected, and the extraction with acetonitrile solution and n-hexane as cleaning sorbent allowed an efficient recovery of 87.6-101.7% with RSDs less than 5%. The limit of detection (LOD) ranged from 6.2 to 20.1 mu g/kg. High sensitivity, accuracy and selectivity were found for the in-house validated method, which can eliminate the interferences from complicated matrices effectively, and fulfil the quality criteria for routine laboratory application for real samples. The developed method was then finally applied to screen the three analytes in 65 milk and dairy products including infant formula milk powders from local markets to check for compliance with Chinese Regulation. Concentrations of the total vanillin and ethyl vanillin ranged from 0.0323 to 246.3 mg/kg, which is within the limits of Chinese regulations.
